useful tip Airport ICAO Code Changes in P3D V5

Recommended Posts

Lockheed Martin updated many airports to their current ICAO code in P3D V5. We did request a list of these airports but they were unable to provide that information.

We are aware of a few but without going through all 24,000 or so default airports, the task of identifying them all was a little beyond us in the short term. We will therefore be updating any of these changed ICAO codes as they are discovered and would request your help in this regard.

Could you please post any code changes you identify to this thread and we will track them from here. I will make it a sticky.

I'll start the list with a few we are aware of and have updated:

YPEC - YLMQ     Lake Macquarie Airport

YSCH - YCFS     Coffs Harbour Airport

YMUI - YMAE    Murray Island Airport

61B - KBVU     Boulder City Municipal Airport

I learn more and more.

When I upgraded to P3Dv5, I noticed that there was no YSCH - the old Orbx  ICAO for Coffs Harbour - but it did have the current and correct ICAO of YCFS.

FWIW, I moved all my Orbx files from the \p3dv4 folder that Central created in my off sim Library folder, to the new \p3dv5 folder created by Central for (obviously) P3Dv5. Only the products that show up in Central are those currently updated to be v5 compatible and that happily is most of Orbx products. Even though the YSCH folder was copied over verbatim to \p3dv5 and doesn't show up in Central while awaiting update, when I set the sim to take off from YCFS, there, to my pleasure was all my beautiful Orbx YSCH Coffs scenery to fly in. I'm not complaining, I am enjoying. And I know it will be properly updated in due course.

I notice Central adding new products to My Products as they are updated. Only a few have needed a small online update for v5 compatibilty.

This is very impressive software development. and has been the fastest, simplest and most enjoyable sim change-over I've ever 'endured'. Kudos Orbx Central Team.

Sorry for the semi relevant side-track. I just wanted to share this most enjoyable 'quirk'.

Cheers

ETEJ has changes since years to EDQA. Now  LM has changed it also to EDQA. RWY03 - 21, before it was 04 - 22.

There is now an altitude problem with GES.

I hope you can fix it. Bamberg Breitenau is my hometown airport.

Best regards

You will need to remove the files you have copied over from V4.5 for YSCH Coffs Harbour, YPEC Aeropelican and YMUI Murray Island otherwise you will have everything duplicated at those airports with the default airport files now and then when you update those airports with the new Orbx version. New file sets have been created using the new ACIO code for each of these airports. The older file sets are not usable in P3D V5.

When you select YSCH or YCFS at the moment you will actually see two airports on top of one another, the Orbx YSCH and the default YCFS. Best to remove Orbx airports from V5 until they are listed as compatible.

I don't know off hand if there is Orbx freeware for this airport but I'll list it anyways..

Lake Simcoe Regional Airport:

As per the Dec 17th, 2009 edition of the CFS

Changed name from "Lake Simcoe Regional Airport" to "Barrie-Orillia (Lake Simcoe Regional Airport)"

Hello Patrick,

can you be specific please?

I can tell you about SEQU to SEQM.

SEQM: Old Mariscal Sucre Intl. AP in Quito, Ecuador, IATA code: UIO. Now closed, and replaced by a park. In P3Dv5, it is not in the ICAO database, but is still shown on the P3Dv5 map view labeled as SEQM, and they have a park correctly replacing it in the scenery.

SEQU: New Mariscal Sucre Intl. AP in Quito, Ecuador, same IATA code: UIO, but is 11 miles away from the old SEQM, and now a new airport in the scenery for v5.

May I suggest the following:
1. run on a vanilla P3Dv5 Installation "simple airport scanner" or similar tool.
2. run on a P3Dv5 Installation with all Orbx stuff the tool again.

The difference of both results should be the airports you have to check.

Unfortunately Simple Airport Scanner is not yet compatible with P3DV5...otherwise the ideas is great :)

I searched the Excel document and wasn't able to find Joseph State Airport. Was 4S3 and is now KJSY.

Hi,

unfortunately my search "algorithm" was not good enough  Not all airports with changed ICAOs are included in my list!

I tried a different approach with calculating the distance between airports, finding the closest match of an old V4 to a new V5 airport.

Now I have a really big list and tried to compile a new "Changed ICAO list", but there are many circumstances to consider:

  1. The ICAO code and the airport position did not change -> The easiest part ;)
  2. The ICAO code is no longer in use (in V5), but an airport with a new ICAO is at the exact same position -> Also easy, this is a replaced ICAO of course.
  3. The ICAO code is no longer in use (in V5), but there is no airport at the exact same position?!? -> Is this an ICAO-change? Is it a corrected airport location and an ICAO change? Is the old airport simply closed and there is a new one?
  4. The ICAO is still in use in V5, but the airport position changed. -> Maybe the ICAO has been re-used and the V4-airport is decomissoned? Or an old airport has been closed and is now located elsewhere with the same ICAO?

That was the point where I lost my motivation and stopped working on this...:banghead:

I think I will give it another try and compile a list with different categories, so anyone can look into it and look up specific airports.

Some of them have to be manually checked, because some changes cannot be detected automatically...

Ok, I'm back with another updated comparison of the airports in P3DV4 and V5.

I compiled three different lists and also included a readme-file with the description of what is included and what it means.

With this data it should be easy to check for any discrepancy between the V4 and V5-database using Excel or other programs of course:

ICAO-List.thumb.JPG.56f7989e91c58ac21fb0687f184eb2a8.JPG

The csv-files are attached ;)

P3DV4V5_ICAO_Matches_and_is_closest.csv

P3DV4V5_ICAO_Matches_but_is_not_closest.csv

P3DV4V5_ICAO_NoMatch_decommissioned_or_changed.csv

Cheers,

Marc

Here is the content of the Readme-file:

This is a comparison of all airports in P3D V4HF2 with the updated airports in P3D V5HF1.

I checked all V4 ICAO-codes against all airports available in V5 and calculated the distance between them.

Then I filtered for the V5-airports which are closest to the old V4-airports,
but also checked for a matching ICAO-code, even if this is not the closest airport in V5.

--- Three lists are included for further evaluation ---

They contain the following data:
ICAO - The ICAO code of the airport in V4
Name - The name of the airport in V4
City - The city of the airport in V4
Lat - The latitude of the airport in V4
Lon - The longitude of the airport in V4

Rwy2 - The 2nd Rwy of the airport in V4
Rwy3 - The 3rd Rwy of the airport in V4
Rwy4 - The 4th Rwy of the airport in V4
MinDist - The distance to the closest airport found in V5 (in km)

City_MinDist - The city of the closest airport in V5
Lat_MinDist - The latitude of the closest airport in V5
Lon_MinDist - The longitude of the closest airport in V5
Alt_MinDist - The altitude of the closest airport in V5
Rwy1 MinDist - The 1st Rwy of the closest airport in V5
Rwy2 MinDist - The 2nd Rwy of the closest airport in V5
Rwy3 MinDist - The 3rd Rwy of the closest airport in V5
Rwy4 MinDist - The 4th Rwy of the closest airport in V5
ICAO_V4andV5 - Just a "Yes" or "No" if the ICAO is used in V4 and V5
ICAO_Match - The ICAO code of the ICAO-match in V5
Name_Match - The name of the ICAO-match in V5
City_Match - The city of the ICAO-match in V5
Lat_Match - The latitude of the ICAO-match in V5
Lon_Match - The longitude of the ICAO-match in V5
Alt_Match - The altitude of the ICAO-match in V5

Rwy2 Match - The 2nd Rwy of the ICAO-match in V5
Rwy3 Match - The 3rd Rwy of the ICAO-match in V5
Rwy4 Match - The 4th Rwy of the ICAO-match in V5

1) P3DV4V5_ICAO_Matches_and_is_closest.csv

    Explanation:
The ICAO-code is available in V4 and V5.
The airport with the matching ICAO-code is also the closest airport.
    What does it mean:
    - The airport was not changed.
    - The airport was slightly corrected in position.
    - The airport was closed and a new airport was opened close by with the same ICAO.

2) P3DV4V5_ICAO_Matches_but_is_not_closest.csv

    Explanation:
The ICAO-code is available in V4 and V5.
But the matching ICAO-airport is not the closest airport!
    What does it mean:
    - The airport has been re-located using the same ICAO, but another airport in V5 is now closer to the old airport-position in V4. (maybe a small airfield)
    - The ICAO has been reused for a different airport, so the old V4-airport has been decommissioned.

3) P3DV4V5_ICAO_NoMatch_decommissioned_or_changed.csv

    Explanation:
The V4 ICAO-code is not available in V5.
    What does it mean:
    - The V4-airport has been decommissioned - closest airport found should be checked for consistency!
    - The V4 ICAO was changed - the closest match with the given distance should be checked!

On a vanilla P3Dv5 Installation:

Changed:

P3D4 KL2 -> P3D5 CKL2

P3D4 KV4 -> P3D5 CKV4

New (added):

CAS2 - Moose Lake (Lodge) Airport - in real world, close to CBE8, Moose Lake (Lodge) Water Aerodrome

CJK2 - Gunisao Lake Airport - in real world, close to CJW8, Gunisao Lake Water Aerodrome

Still under old ICAO:

P3D4 MXA4 - Estacion Aeronaval, Tulum - still in P3D5, although ICAO was changed to MMTU, now Tulum Airport in Skyvector

Landed at Tillamook in Oregon and had all kinds of weird problems. Now I know why! It's on the list. Great work.
