Wow Larry, this is some awesome work. As much as I like flying in the PNW this adds a whole new dimension to the experience that I look forward to explore. Thank you for sharing and Iain for the shots.

We only have TE PNW for X-Plane 11, but not for P3D. Why this great add on is not built for X Plane 11?

There is no TE PNW, only a TE Washington and TE Oregon. There has been a landclass-based PNW region for FSX and later P3D for many years now, and I guess that the addon mentioned here is for that region, not for the more recent True Earth regions released for X-Plane 11

@Larry_R Does this update anything on your original 'AI Ferry System for Southern BC and Puget Sound v2' from March 2019?
If so, does it require a complete delete of the older project and full install of the new Orbx one?

Well done on "making the cut."

How in the world is this not payware? I’d pay for this and I’m not complaining , it’s wonderful, and I see some great comic potential here too.  Really look forward to this Larry, thank you and Orbx.

Thanks for asking a very pertinent question.

The original 'AI Ferry System for Southern BC and Puget Sound v2' is not compatible and must be removed.  This is covered in the User Guide but I’ll bet that like me, not that many read the guides before installing.

If you have installed the Blog version of the ferries as an xml add-on in your \Documents\Prepar3D v4 Add-ons\ folder as recommended you can just delete it.  You should also rename the disabled trafficBoats.bgl.original  back to the original name ‘trafficBoats.bgl’.  Ideally you should do this before installing Pacific Northwest Ferries.

If you forget and install the Pacific Northwest Ferries without first installing the blog version, delete the blog version.  Orbx Central will have managed the traffic file.  The only caveat is that if you later uninstall the ferries, Orbx Central will not be able to restore the  name of  the default traffic file and you will need to do this yourself. It’s covered in the User Guide.

If by rare chance you have disassembled the Blog  add-on xml version and copied the various parts (effects, sounds, SimObjects, scenery) to the sim folder itself,  removing and deleting the scenery component should  be sufficient.

I strongly recommend installing the Pacific Northwest Ferries in an external library and not in the sim. This keeps all the files installed by the ferries in one place so you can be sure that every trace is removed when you uninstall.

Hi Larry,

Thanks for all of your great work including this newest Pacific Northwest Ferries add on.  I am sure it will be  superb just as it looks in the great pictures by Iain!

Am I assuming right, that this product is not yet released?

Jack

I am guessing its for now only available if you subscribe to fastlane option in orbx central which allows you to access addons and update a bit earlier while they are in final beta stages. I could not see it any where in Orbx Central V4.1

This is excellent news, thanks for this Larry. Thanks for both you and Iain for the images too.

I will at last be able to enjoy this magnificent add on as I didn't have the nous to install it before!

What a  great reminder this will be for the trip I recently took between Swartz Bay and Tsawwassen on The Queen of New Westminster.:)

Larry,

Your PNW freeware is the icing on the cake for what is already my favourite place to fly in the P3D world - every add on a must and every one worth paying for too so to get them as freeware is awesome!

Same here! Was there last October and took the ferry.

Looking forward to watching the ferries go to and fro. Nice work Larry!

Thanks again for your commitment to this and CAC8 Larry! Out of curiosity, do you have BC Ferries C classes and newer Coastal Renaissance class modeled? :)

Cheers!

Hello Troy,

The most recent BC ferries modeled are the two Spirit Class boats. There are a couple of ferries that are no longer in service but that have sentimental value for me so they remain, like the Queen of Nanaimo. It takes me between one and two months to make a boat and a number of them have been redone multiple times as I've gone along. I have to stop somewhere just to get this out the door.

Cheers

Larry, I'm really looking forward to adding this to my sim. I've already deleted the previous .xml based version and restored trafficboats.bgl in anticipation of release (sure was easier than the earlier system), and I'm also looking forward to the progress made to the wave effects you prototyped a while back. It was a treat to see a couple of shots of the Kingston terminal, as we're on the Kingston-Edmonds run once or twice a month to head to "the other side" from the Kitsap peninsula. I completely agree with the comments above that this is truly payware quality and a magnificent gift to the community.

Curious about something I haven't seen mentioned, except perhaps in connection with your comment about the Bremerton and Seattle terminals. Did you accommodate the DD Seattle City X (not airports) scenery where your terminals would affect that scenery area? Based on the map here, that would be Fauntleroy, Edmonds and Mukilteo but not Point Defiance or anything on Vashon.

For those unfamiliar with the Washington State Ferry system, here's a link to their home page, where you can find a .pdf map and timetable on the left side of the site, so you'll know where to look for terminals and boats. Here's one for BC Ferries for their southern Gulf of Georgia routes and one for the northern Gulf routes. Both systems are a real life-line in the PNW.

A better Point No Point light and area and my P3D PNW will be ideal. With your WSF/BC Ferries, I'll be back to preferring it over TE Washington.

Just saw it's out. Fabulous! I see from the separately downloadable manual (great idea, Orbx) you've included route maps so my links above are just supplemental for anyone waning a standalone version.

Have to completely agree!  I'm a friend of Larry (also the late Neil Hill) and have watched Larry's talent and giving spirit grow by the day.

The new PNW Ferry and Terminals is 1st class.

A big CONGRATULATIONS to Larry on a stellar project.  I too take the Edmonds to Kingston ferry fairly often.  Riding the ferry is unlike anything else you will ever do.

In case it helps I've made a zip file of all the Terminals and POI in the new PNW Ferries and Terminals by Orbx and Larry Robinson.  Each one will put you facing the terminal or POI in slew mode, using the default Maule.  Of course I also like just flying around and finding them but just in case.  ;)

Here's my two favorites (well, besides Mukilteo to Clinton, and Pt Defiance, and...........)  Can you guess which ones they are?

What a superb accomplishment! Congratulations, Larry!

Thanks for the work on the flight plans, Rob. Nice even for us locals.

I'm also pleased to report that Larry's three terminals that are in the DD Seattle X area fit in just fine. In fact, the PR Larry used appears to be the same set but better rez than the DD ones. Perfectly understandable on DD's part as they're covering a larger area. For anyone using the DD product, don't miss out on picking up Larry's freeware. As you can tell from those of us who live here in the Puget Sound area, Larry has truly captured an essential part of the experience. This is a pay-ware quality product in all but the free price.

I did notice that at Kingson and Bainbridge/Winslow Larry has King County water taxis for high speed ferries, tho' at the correct location for Kingston. It's the small vessel outside the breakwater and to port of the ferry. Should be Kitsap Transit like this, but admittedly, that's pretty nit-picky.  His "Welcome to Kingston" sign covers all sins. :P

Yes, I know the model I used is not correct. In fact the Melissa Ann used at Kingston is now replaced with newer boats on Seattle routes. I do have a few photos of the boat used on the Kingston run but not enough and given the 1 to 2 months it takes me to make a boat, I had to make compromises. A lot of them. For example, some of the other ferries represented are no longer in service.  I hope everyone will understand.

Nice picture showing that obviously this annoying bug with terrain reflections showing up in the middle of water is still not solved. What a pity (not Orbx fault). Sadly, those guys over at LM still ignore this bug...

And the shifted terrain shore and bank reflections in the water...

But indeed, it's not Orbx causing it.
