  1. Folks, now that my sim is working well again, it is time to start a tour around my recent purchases. Recent means "since December 2016", as I have not been flying in NA since then... So getting out of KLAX... ... across the Griffith Observatorium... ... and the Victorville plane cementary. Then further north across Edwards... ... and into Yosemite NP. Mono Lake is kind of disappointing in Open_LC, maybe it shoud be individually enhanced towards reality. Lake Tahoe definetively does not need to be enhanced, a "must-land" on every tour in the region.
  2. As a result of the recent Milviz sale, T.C. was flying again to pick up his friend Rick in Kanaohe... ... and went up the road to Robin Master´s Nest to meet P. I. Thomas. Along Pali Hwy, ... ... overlooking Pearl Harbour. As usual, our heros were on a special mission... ... to drop some strictly confidential documents at the military part of PHNL.
  3. This flight starts where my last one ended, in Gerald Ford International Airport, Grand Rapids, MI. You may wonder if I chose the right plane for my destination? Yes it was the right plane...: Here we are, after flying 12 minutes to the west: Holland, Michigan. This airport is called "Tulip City", KBIV. Confusing name... ... but a tour over the city center reveals the reason: And soon we learn that the name "Holland" also has a meaning. Now, following the Macatawa Bay towards Lake Michigan, ... ... I have to say I miss the Big Red at the tip of Holland State Park. So let´s go back to Holland Township Airport, just direct next to the road but i was too slow to take a RL picture there . Perhaps we find some place for the night with good service.
  4. Let´s move on northwards from Kankakee, crossing the big Warmart store just north of the airport (well, not present in our landclass product, but fully stocked in RL)... ... and crossing the famous Homestead restaurant in Kankakee city. Famous it was, currently it is closed... So we move just a little north to Bourbonnais, where we find a good place to refuel. The serious pilot goes on to the suburb of Midlothian (do the also have a Heart of Midlothian here?), ... ... and towards Chicago CBD. Great views. Getting down along Millenium Park... ... into Meigs. And, after cooling down, for a drink and a burger into town. Indeed, we did have a burger there, just after seeing they serve tons of Sauerkraut, Bratwurst and even Grünkohl (before November - blasphemic!). What a surprise for the unprepared German traveller.
  5. I can´t decide which city is more important to Jazz: New Orleans? Jackson, MS? Or Chicago? So I just turned around above Lake Michigan... ... to Holland. I mean, the city of Holland, MI. And into Gerald Ford International airport of Grand Rapids: A good starting point for some short distance flights in Open_LC NA-land, I think...
  6. Leaving Corpus Christi ... ... along the Gulf coast, ... ... but is is only a short hop to Houston city, if all goes well. Downwind to get a little overview... ... and turning into final over Lake Houston. ATC is not always as perfect as it should, but this mate needs to go around... ... whilst we approach the 26R safely. A good choice of routes to explore the south from here... now I need to decide where to go next .
  7. Here we go on, from Houston down to Louisiana, close to New Orleans... Sorry I do not have a proper Embraer 145 - I had to take the default CRJ for this job. At least, I hope to meet Martyns expectations in another aspect. Boar(d)ing,... ... climbout... ... passing Port Arthur (a bit too blue for my impression) ... ... and the Mississippi. And here we arrive in Baton Rouge, LA. Shut down, time for deboarding. And to look for someone who knows to play the guitar.
  8. ... or, translated, from @teecee´s current home in Jackson, MS to New Orleans Louis Armstrong International Airport: After a night full of talking, we are climbing out of Jackson, ... ... with a last city view... ... and following the roads south across McComb: Turning right towards the river at Geismar... ... seeing Gonzales (with its Outback steakhouse and the Tanger Outlet Mall) in the background. Honestly, the river coast is far more industrial here, like that: OK, lets us do a quick ride over the Gulf... ... seeing the Ol´man river pouring sands into the sea: Not easy to find your way following a river here. Closing in to New Orleans downtown, ready to stop for the night. No photos taken there, due to privacy reasons.
  9. To have the documentation completed: After using the migration tool in FTXC v2, El Paso looks good...
  10. Let me take you for a little weekend tour around Corpus Christi, Texas. Starting towards downtown... ... and along the waterfront, with very good vector data. A bit more detail to come, once the full-fat region "USA Central South" is being set. Turning north, over the Harbour bridge and the USS Lexington - if you can´t see them here, take the 2nd picture. Aransas Pass, ... ... and the (missing) ferry to Port Aransas. Nice beach houses here... Talking about beach, here it is. Miles and miles... ... but it should be white, not green. Cycling into final over Bishop... ... and into Water Street Oyster Bar. Sorry no Oyster this time, just the blackened Tuna.
  11. UA5240 was ready for boarding on this April evening at Houston International, gate A2. Just a short hop to Corpus Christi, less than 1 h by schedule. Taking off the 33R, showing the beautiful blend between FTX Global / Open_LC and FSDTs KIAH. Down the gulf coast some clouds came up... ... some more during descend. No way, mates... go around was ordered. A very calm, smooth, but steady climb, again. We were scheduled to divert to Brownsville. At least we could spot the runway here, plus the ILS was working. Never been so far south in the US before. And never seen the size of the Chinooks so impressive, imagine the Cessna pilot... As a compensation for the long travelling time, we were offered this dinner. The only European on board (me...) was confused, not having ever seen "Europe´s favourite cookie" before. Refueled, sufficient to eventually return to Houston, we started another attempt. This time successful, to get us into Corpus safely. Thanks to the crew for calm & professional action. Thanks to Orbx for the scenery. I love to repeat real flights.
  12. With so many great city tours in Open_LC NA being posted currently, I may jump in into @Ripcords backyard. Well, quite a big backyard this is... Taking off from KIAH´s 09R... ... heading west, to Cypress (and the Premium Outlet Mall, which does not have an airstrip [yet]). Down to downtown... ... and further to Johnson Space Center. No problem. Turning east over Clear Lake (which is no lake at all), ... ... and back north to work. La Porte: And finally into the 9R again. A pleasure to tour here!
