  1. Here we go again, taxiing in Milford Sound. Quite impressive, at least in motion. Heading out into the fjord, with Mitre Peak ahead... ... and the settlement behind. Plus Bowen Falls in its glory. One can imagine why the rock ahead is called "The Elephant". Tourists heading north at the coast... ... while we turn inland over Martins Bay. I would welcome a slight name change to "Martyns Bay" @VH-KDK. Climbing is needed over Lake McKerrow... ... following Hollyford River... ... to Dart River and Diamond Lake. Not easy to get enough altitude to cross the Southern Alps. But once you reach Lake Wakatipu is becomes easy, you just need to descend... ... and bring your bird (and the wealthy tourists) back into Queenstown.
  2. ... only visual, by the way. Starting at the Milford Lodge... ... we move to Milford cruise harbour, ready to change to a canoe. The first sight is Bowen Falls. Must be @BradB who dropped the name here. Looks fantastic even from the distance. Just turning around we face Mitre Peak. Plus some wildlife on the way back to the harbour. Wouldn´t it be great to travel again?
  3. Ready to airborn from Milford Sound airport in Piper Super Cub:
  4. I'm delighted to see that the "The Crown Jewel" of Milford Sound has been updated to v5. I managed to grab these shots before becoming disenchanted with v5 altogether (!): We have waterworks again! And now ... featuring the amazing Avro 621: I think we all know where this one is! Adam.
  5. The passengers arrived too early at Milford Sound airfield, ... ... but this gave them the chance to get some more great views of Mitre Peak. Great views are also guaranteed for the pilot here. Enough space for a canyon turn, ... ... and here we go, ... ... following Milford Sound Highway, ... ... that leads us to Homer Tunnel. East of the tunnel the name of the road changes to Te Anau Highway. We just hop over the mountains to Lake Wakatipu, ... ... leaving Glenorchy behind, ... ... before approaching Queenstown soon after. Parked at the right place, and at the right time to spot the stars. And to spot the bars, I suspect.
  6. If you are overdone by hiking, bungee jumping, paragliding or jetboat blasting, there still remains one thing to do when you are in Queenstown: Take a little scenic flight. Starting up the Kawarau River... ... and then back south over Frankton. Passing Queenstown CBD, ... ... which is a slight way down from Frankton and the airport, ... ... out to Lake Wakatipu. The calm village of Glenorchy ... ... is the gateway to some movie stages of the Lord of the Rings, ... ... which should be visible from Lake Sylvan quite well. It needs some 10000 ft altitude to cross the southern alps here... ... but finally we drop down to Martyns Bay. Pardon, Martins Bay. Now we descend further down this magnificent coast... ... until a gap to the left. Altitude 1500 gives a little thrill... ... as we enter Milford Sound. The Elephant. The Lion. The airport. No worries, ... ... there is enough parking space next to the colleague. And famous Mitre Peak waits in the background.
  7. One of the most iconic of all "little" aircraft - A2A have brought their J3 Piper Cub up to date for P3Dv4. Here we are on a trip from Picton to (you guessed it ...) Milford Sound: Heidi MkII does PBR!! Adam.
  8. I am a latecomer to the NZ scenery but my lord how beautiful it is!
  9. Hello Something strange is happening in my NZ scenery (south Island) and airports that I have bought. The last scenery I have automatically installed is the one from Iceland (demo) Here is my scenery hierarchy. As you can see, all has been installed automatically. Then, I went to NZQN airport and see what I get (It is the same for NZFM) So can you help me having the airport properly set ? Thank you
  10. Thanks to the sale, I was able to complete my NZ collection. Here is a set from the newly acquired Queenstown, to an old favorite, Milford Sound. Enjoy!
  11. Maybe it's my over eagerness or maybe I just overspend on the SALE but I'm running into all sorts of mesh problems in New Zealand. I've uninstalled and reinstalled North and South Island and still the airports are either in potholes or surrounded by heaps of elevated ground and grass floating in the air. I've tried from 1m - 19m mesh and although the heaps get lower they are still there and when you land you sink through one runway into the next. In VECTOR neither NZMF or NZQN are listed to exclude. I don't have any problem with other areas (Norway, UK, PNW, etc etc) only in New Zealand. Very strange. Maybe I'm doing something wrong somewhere but the installation and migration all went without any hiccups and I assume FTX Central has all the files in the correct order because, as I said, all other areas seem to be correct and no elevation problems so far.
  12. After installing the Carenado planes into p3dv4 I went on to another of my favourite GAs - unfortunately without a p3d installer. Added all the liveries, and - voila: Good that this is just the taxiway... The beauty of Milford Sound... ... and the west coast. Entering Doubtful Sound in something more exclusive than a cruiseship... ... and climbing over the rocks... ... to Lake Manapouri. This is where someone filmed the Anduin River... ... and Lothlorien. Mavora Lake... ... and Lake Wakatipu. Queenstown ahead. VFR flying at its finest... ... unfortunately I could not turn the CRS needle. This may be the only p3d-deficit that occurs - does anybody have better experience with this bird? At least I could bring her down safely...
  13. Getting ready in Martins Lodge for the test flight in my trusty C185, in a slightly misplaced, but beloved livery. There are some free seats left in my plane, if you like? And the views are going to be fine after this unspectacular takeoff. An overview of Martins Bay... ... and the adjacent Big Bay, ... ... before going down the coast... ... and into Milford Sound. I was surprised not to see lots of statics after parking in NZMF, as it came straight out of the box. I mean straight out of the wire (we have to adapt our language to these modern times). But surely this can be changed in the control panel. And a remote airfield like this can get all details, even on my system. BTW, the Mitchellwing U2 also works fully in p3dv4.
  14. I did not use a totally appropriate livery to start out of Queenstown today... and at the end of the flight I have also learned that it was not even a totally appropriate plane ... Climbing southbound over Lake Wakatipu... ... and enjoying a look back over the city. Mt. Aspiring NP from above... ... and a final view to the Lake, ... ... before I crossed the ridge and went down over Hollyford River... ... towards Martyns Bay. Oh no, it is still Martins Bay! Perhaps it is easier to land on the beach here... ... but I called for "runway" 20... ... where the Caravan seems a bit, say, optimistic. Good that this is not a real flight. Made it. Time to relax at Martins Lodge, with a well-deserved glass of cold white!
  15. I hope this doesn't come across as being overly nitpicky, but it drives my OCD nuts. I'm happy to have FTX NZMF in my scenery database. However, I've noticed that the Milford Sound text in Prepar3D's select airport list window is labeled "Milford SOund" instead of "Milford Sound" when NZMF is installed. I feel crazy for asking this, but is there an easy way to update/change this to "Milford Sound"? I'm open to editing a text file if it's pretty straight forward. Thanks!
  16. Hi, I installed in P3D V3.4 latest hotfix under Win 7/64 the NZ North and South scenery as well as NZMF and NZQN. Whenever I try to move my plane to NZMF from my default flight, I got a CTD with G3D.dll as the faulting module. As soon as I deinstalled NZMF I could mover there. So I investigated by trial and error, which file produces this error. I ended up with "ORBX_NZMF_PLC_additional_trees.bgl" A soon as I remover this file, everything is fine. Immediately when I copy it back, the error is back. Independent from plane. Maybe you can have a look into this file. Rgds Reinhard
  17. I have been having elevation issues at both NZMF and NZQN after installing the NZSI update this morning. I have tried to fix by running the Vector elevation tool. NZMF NZQN Please advise, Thanks, Greg
  18. ... and for sure I am not talking about motorhomes. After a great day at Martins Bay lodge (do not talk about the night before)... ... we left with a last view of the beach... ... and down to Milford Sound for another attempt. Entering the fjord... ... passing The Elephant (you can already guess where the name comes from )... ... and this time the approach was not too high. Obviously NZMF is a major hub for the region... ... with first class lounge facilities only 5 minutes away. Let´s go with the next bus... ... but the routing I found in the plane - following the Milford Track - does require quite a challenging takeoff for that size of plane! Climbing over Lake Ada... ... turning around the corner... ... and crossing the mountain ridges, ... ... just to descend seconds later over Lake Wakatipu. Into Queenstown on base... ... and final, ... ... to find MY parking lot occupied . We are gonna have an argument, my friend...
  19. Chopping around Martins bay... I knew Kiwis drive on the wrong side of the road. But I did not know they have the front page of their newspapers on the last side ?! What a beach... Now further south, to Sutherland Falls... ... and the way back to... ... guess!
  20. After a nice, belated breakfast (we had to digest the fish & wine from yesterday evening...) we took off from Quintin Lodge... ... flew north along Arthur River... ... back to Milford Sound, with a nice view of the mountain ridges. Passing Milford Lodge we followed the road... ... which can be a mistake, when you do not know the area and have looked on a 2-dimensional roadmap only: When we turned around a mountain, we saw the road disappearing in Homer Tunnel - and ourselves desperately climbing. Yes we can. Climb across the pass and enter Hollyford Valley, flying westwards to the sea... ... and to Martins Bay. Some options to land here... ... but we went to Martins Bay Lodge... ... with a warm welcome... ... and a cooling engine.
  21. I went with a friend out of Milford Sound, he would try to teach me fishing and I would try to practice landings. Here we go, Lake Ada. As usual, the beginners luck was with me, he did not get any catch. But where could we have the catch grilled...? The closest lodge seems to be the best option... so, up Arthur River... ... uuups, that is a steep descend. Flaps out, canyon turn. But here we are. Parked with a nice view of Sutherland Falls. And now for the freshest fish & some cold white...
  22. Not many comments I need to make here, it was just a little tour around this well-established-but-new-for-me scenery...: Hope you enjoy them. As much as I did to fly there.
  23. A few shots from around NZMF, a beautiful area to explore, fly into and out of or just walk around, imho!
  24. The Dude just won a trip to Milford Sound in New Zealand's South Island and while there decided to take a swim with the dolphins on a nice clear day, too bad he forgot to bring his swim trunks! That looks like fun, think I may just jump in clothes and all! Hey fella's looks like that guy on the dock may be thinking of jumping in with us, too bad the sharks aren't around today! GERONIMO!!! Big splash for such a short dive! Almost gotcha Mr. D He thinks we're playing leap frog but it's called "Dodge the Dolphin" Had to leave the water due to storm surge and high waves, maybe more swimming later! Not exactly up to his normal shenanigans but hey...
