Well, that is it! The first glider just arrived at the Fane Parish airport in Papua New Guinea… Before it is officially offered as a tourist attraction for the region, some attempts at taking-off and landing must be done. The first trial attracts a few people! The descent along the twelve degree sloped runway is a bit rough for the glider’s low wings, as there are some bushes that will have to be trimmed! The weather is nice and very warm. The only potential problem is the mountain ahead. Fin

I'm a new fan of PNW and have been exploring around Jefferson County airport in the ultralight and enjoying the experience immensely. As a one-time glider certificate holder (from the wondeful, but sadly now closed Calistoga Soaring Center in the Northern California wine country) I wanted to see how soaring was out of OS9 with a first test flight today. With weather set to "fair weather" (thermal visualization "Schematic" in "Settings > Display >Weather") and taking a tow to 3,200' straight out from runway 27, a sharp right turn puts one right into a strong thermal.
