  1. A successful SODE trial allows us to have a speedy boarding procedure at Bilbao... ... so that we could go quite quick. What a location. We headed northeast, to cross the Garonne (and the Dordogne) in Bordeaux. Stewart @European Mountain Man will probably know this place well. Here we are already descending into downwind, with a nice view across Paris and the Seine river. And the rainy final into Charles-de-Gaulles´ 27R. Some traffic around, which will result in a lenghty taxi tour on the way to the gate...
  2. Due to my troubles ocurred during the switch to Win10 I did not fly & post as much as usual during the last two months. But I am getting back, slowly. Today you see me leaving for a short Easter holiaday, picking a safe Boeing at Hanover... ... climbing over the Wesergebirge... ... and reaching FL350 over the Rhein. Northern France is mostly cloudy, ... ... but at least we can spot Biarritz over the south, to the right. Hours later. Leaving the west coast of Africa behind... ... for a short hop over the Atlantic. Sandy Fuerteventura. Approching Gran Canaria from the south (as usual). You can see the global landclass is nothing but a disaster.
  3. Never been to Sardinia in the sim (I don't think). Flew in from Rome. This is Alghero to Cagliari. Straight 'v's. Next leg is back to Rome. Fair to say I'm a bit of a fan of openLC. It opens up a whole lot of the world. Mike
  4. Due to another update of the Aerosoft Airbus I had to chose an uncommon livery for a flight out of Tromsö. And these northern impressions are great... ... though the SID is not as easy as one might think! Oh, quel surprise: Coffee service already while climbing through 14000 ft! You can be very sure I open the cockpit door... At least the route was going around the worst weather. In order to avoid coffee spills. Who would be cleaning the cockpit? Here we meet the Baltic sea. I don´t know why Vector has chosen the "frozen lakes" option, but the ground looks winterly still. We have to expect some limited visibility during descend... Limited, indeed... ... but ok. I did not manage to get the updated ESSA jetways to work. Is there a trick?
  5. It's a wintry morning in Stockholm... ...the land seems frozen... ... visibility is reduced... ...snowflakes are dancing in the air. So is the Swedish winter! The United Airlines plane that's being catered at Gate Foxtrot 36 finds itself in this winter story... ...and is being de-iced right at the gate. The passengers inside the plane observe the de-icing crew doing their job without protecting their heads and hands against the cold. Those hardy Swedes! A few minutes later, the Triple-Seven is being pushed back from the gate... ...and starts to taxi to the runway. The snow gets no less on its way... ...flaps and slats are kept retracted to prevent icy material to attach to the flaps mechanism and potentially freeze there. How different the sight, only a few minutes later! A bright morning above the clouds. The airplane cruises high above the snowy landscape of Scandinavia... ...and above the ships that traverse the Atlantic Ocean. The New World is no less covered with snow than the old one. Somewhere over New England... ...the sky looks even colder than at the other side of the pond! Who might populate those snowy hills in this time of year, when even the bears retreat to their den? New Jersey and Staten Island ahead! And a massive bank of clouds... A/P off at 270' and touchdown. After more than 8 hours, the plane has made it from the wintry cold morning in Stockholm to the wintry cold morning in Newark. Content and relieved, the passengers leave the plane through a comfortable jetway... ...and probably face the worst part of their voyage on the highway to home. That's it, I hope you liked it. Cheers.
  6. Although, given this weather, there might be too little lift to fly the FSX mission with the glider. So I´ll better take a KingAir and get ready in Arlanda. Man, this looks cold. BTW, this flight is done at noon. At least the Swedes are routined experts in cleaning the buildings and apron. Stockholm below. Only for those with radar eyes. OpenLC was not improving much of the scenery today. Hm, this does not only look cold. Luckily Gotland, my intended destination, shows up. ILS21, but VFR would also be possible in Visby today. Get out & fetch some warm drinks, mates!
  7. No fear, mates, this is neither a latin lesson nor a history one. This is "just" a flight between the two airports that come as a bonus in Magnus´ Kiruna scenery. An early morning start in Visby... ... where de-icing was requested by the ground crew. Taking off in southerly direction, ... ... yields a beautiful turn over the historical city of Visby. No too much to see from the swedish landscape... ... but the approach to Borlänge / Dala was even worse: Some might call this "whiteout"... Due to the wind direction we were guided into runway 14 - which does not have an ILS. And the visibility was not really good... Nevertheless, we found the runway, finally. The next challenge was finding a useable taxiway... Made it. A great flight, and two bonus airports that make Kiruna to a "must-have" scenery for me. And I did not even visit Kiruna itself yet...
  8. Leaving home again... ... and GEN already shows winter in a very beautiful way. Turning out to the right / north... ... to see Hanover airport & city above the Airbus. The Elbe river leads to hamburg - but you can´t see it under the clouds. Some colleagues flying around me. Copenhagen below... ... and Gotland to the right. If you look at the weather on the ND, our approach seems to be a good choice. Stockholm below, ... ... just before reaching Arlanda. Unfortunately the jetways can´t be used or replaced with SODE ones in Arlanda. Which makes our beloved passengers freeze when unboarding . @Magnus Almgren , please help them!
  9. Welcome aboard Swiss International Flight 196 from Zürich to Peking, pardon, from Zurich to Beijing. Grüezi! It never rains in Northern Switzerland... wait: it pours, man, it pours! The Swiss controllers are a very relaxed concerning the dangers of crossing runways. Takeoff into the... soup. Sorry I forgot the proper word that I've read 100 times here. But soon we leave the clouds below us. Alpine rocks scrape the clouds over Tyrolia. Soon there's a hole in the grey blanket. Mighty mountains, blue lakes and a green valley. It's a harsh yet beautiful environment. Let's bank to the left, towards Bavaria. Servus, Bad Aibling! The Inn River (over Rosenheim). In the background is Austria (direction Kiefersfelden). Looking towards the Donau / Danube Grüßgott, Deggendorf! Nihau, China! (already outside of the limits of Bavaria) We enjoy the blue hour from the jump seat before we will be reaching Beijing eventually. I hope you enjoyed the flight. (sorry no landing)

What remains of Lake Aral. It could benefit from some Orbx love. The Fann Mountains of Tajikistan. Dushanbe ("Monday"), the capital of Tajikistan. The Hindu Kush ("Hindu Murderer") in Afghanistan. Close to Lahore, the view goes in the direction of Islamabad and the Western Himalaya. Thank you for looking.
  11. Going on from Munich we had the chance to choose the best airline of all. Well, it is a long flight, why should we go with some other? Climbing out of the 08L... ... to reach the initial FL350 just before Vienna. FTs scenery does not blend perfectly into FTXG. Later that day... the Caucasus. Already powdered. The russian Republic of Dagestan with Chirkey Lake below and the Caspian Sea ahead. Over Afghanistan / Pakistan we came into darkness. And India even presented thunderstorms - we had to divert. "Shortly" after the next day came out, somewhere over the Indian Ocean. Here we descend over Malaysia... ... and turn towards our destination. This is it, still flying downwind... ... the Localizer came alive, ... ... and here we were established towards the 20C. I think the 20L is still mudland? Left the runway after a successful landing... Singers just looks great now. Slowly moving into the parking lot... ... and finally we were ready for deboarding. Where to go now? Ah, here´s the luggage belt! Singapore is a great hub, with direct connections to nearly all major airports on this planet. We have booked exactly this flight for next years holiday with our children, so I was totally forced to prepare it in the sim. For me this enhances the pleasure of travelling a lot!
  12. One holiday comes to an end, and we have to catch a flight in Heraklion. This is how the airport looked until early 2018. The airside was expanded meanwhile, but only in reality, not in the sim. Let´s go east, ... ... then north. Here we already cross the Peloponnes, with the channel of Corinth hidden under the cloud bottom right. Kerkyra / Korfu. From here we just follow the adriatic sea... ... until its northern end. Venice. One holiday spot follows the other. This is Bozen, with the Lago di Garda in the background. Innsbruck. We went on to an easier airport... but into the clouds! No approach pictures here, again. I´m sorry. Munich is THE place to change to another category of flying. Be it bushflying in Bavaria? Approaching the alps? Or world-travelling in widebodies? Stay tuned...
  13. From Heraklion, the capital of the Island of Crete... ... I followed the road southwards, over the moutains at Agia Varvara, ... ... where, after crossing the pass, we had a glorious view of the Messara plain. Further westwards the main city of the plainland, Mires, was crossed (and misplaced in Vector...), ... ... and over the Minoan harbour we flew out to the Libyan Sea. The uninhabited Paximadi islands are a good waymark to turn back... .. to the famous bay of Matala, ... and overlooking the 5 km-long Komos beach again. Here we are already on the way back to Heraklion, crossing Zaros - a good place for hiking and freshwater fishing. Sorry, no landing pictures today. But you know how this looks like, be it successful or not, don´t you? As you can see OpenLC does its job and gives a wonderful realistic impression of the landscape. As well we can see this is no full fat region, some Vector misplacements and the lack of POIs or true cites is evident. And this is totally as intended (and expected) by the Global packages: Mission accomplished, I would say.
  14. We were getting ready in Athens for a little hop... ... and climbing out the 09R. You can easily imagine why the greek national colours are blue and white. After a few minutes on FL170 we are already approaching Heraklion in 09 direction. You can see that I had to manipulate the cockpit to make this old Airbus Extended livery working: The callsign is wrong. But the glideslope is right! The old venetian harbour... ... and the remainders of the city wall. Here we are, ready to look for the beach. And the tavernas...
  15. Boarding in Olbia, Sardegna. With a last view to the terminal. Climbing out in the real weather conditions of November - obviously I had to cheat with the simmed weather to get some views of the harbour... ... and the coast. Heading westwards we reach Italy. This is just east of Salerno... ... and here we cross the tip of the Italian "boot": From Taranto to Brindisi. Reaching Greece at Kerkira. The Bay of Korinth from the western end (right) to the east (left). South of it is the Peloponnes, below us the greek mainland. To the left you can see the "cut": The channel of Korinth. In anciend times ships were pulled over the rocky lands, but since 1893 the 6.4 km channel enables the shortcut, saving 325 km of sailing. Though, only for small ships: It was carved to a depth of 84 m into the rocks, resulting in a lockless but narrow seaway: The minimum width is about 21 m. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Corinth_Canal Approaching Athens. You can already see Piraeus in the middle and Athens right in front of the mountains. Around the corner at Vouliagmeni... ... over the Koropi quarry... ... and here we are: Athens Eleftherios Venizelos, opened on time for the 2004 Olympic games.
  16. This time I was faster in the simulated flights than in real life. So I can only give you the additional proofs to the enclosed post now. Here is the reference... And here is the reality: On approach to Madrid Barajas... ... and visiting Toledo some minutes later. Mesh and vector data are ok, but the building charatcter is a clear deficite. Plus, that city has lots of POIs which would be nice in the sim, like the Puenta de San Martin or the Cathedral:
  17. Getting ready for a short hop out of the Basque region... ... and leaving Bilbao in a weather "with character". We reach Leon much faster than the pilgrims on their way to Santiago. And soon we go on, leaving the freeware senery from Simzaleak... ... to the heart of the country: Madrid. With its confusing runway layout. ILS helps...
  18. Today we leave Spain from Madrid Barajas... ... pass over Barcelona ... ... and cross the Mediterranean. A pilots job is so stressful. You can´t even finish the news on the Royals! I had to put the newspaper away, as the descend over Sardinia´s northeastern tip came so quickly. The industrial area of Porto Torres is just over the plane´s body - better places to stay are at the west coast. Descending ... ... into Olbia. You knew what you had to expect from a post report from me, didn´t you? ATC assigned me to a deserted position in the sim. But at least I could make a little snapshot when deboarding from the back door. If you get a better pilot than me, it is fully ok to fly EasyJet. I would never make such a positive comment about Ryanair!
  19. Leaving Barcelona I had a good view of the tower... ... and found @Captain Lars just ahead of me. I had to wait for his huge wake before I could get off... ... on the initial SID towards the sea... ... and then westwards. Over the countryside, into dawn and clouds... ... and towards the Bay of Biscay. Fantastic visibility. At least ILS helps. Safe. Looks unique here... But the jetways really are not perfectly placed...
  20. I did not post much in the last 4 weeks. Instead, I was collecting pictures of (14) real life flights in southern Europe, basically Greece and Spain. And now I can enjoy repeating these flights in the sim - and sharing some of the pleasure with you. Let us start with some views taken during flights from Munich to Barcelona. Climbing out westwards over the Isar river. Fürstenfeldbruck airfield, with Starnberger and Ammersee in the background. The Bodensee = Lake Constance. Crossing the alps with a view of the Mont Blanc massiv, ... ... towards Marseille, where we reach the Mediterranean Sea. Shortly after we begin the descend in front of the pyrenees... ... until Barcelona comes into view. Though the second real flight was also sold as Lufthansa, it was executed by Air Dolomiti. If they knew this would cause confusion to the Orbx forum community watching this post... The tank area of the harbour, ... ... the mole, ... ... logistics in El Prat, ... ... and the Llobregat river. Here we are. Amazing how realistic the city looks in the sim. Though... I have to admit it took about 10 minutes for my computer to load all the autogen of the city. Sceneries (and planes) like these will force me upgrade my rig, at some day in the not-so-near-future, I hope.
  21. So many people travel to Munich within the next 2 1/2 weeks, Austrian needed to change to a bigger plane for the service from Vienna. Here we get ready at gate F1, ... ... as can be seen with the special livery "Danube waltz". Last checks outside... ... and inside. Off we go at the 16. No doubt: It is autumn in Vienna. We already reach our FL200 five minutes after takeoff, and make the easy navigation from here: Following the Danube river upstream. Coffee is served, and you can see "Winston Churchill" having a cigar in the background. The Voralpenland, with a clear difference in mesh. Salzburg at the banks of River Salzach. And here we already descend over Munich. You can see the GES cityscape is too brown to be realistic. Moderators, please put this to your list! The sandy-looking area in the left background of the picture is the Theresienwiese, where the last preparations for the Wiesn are currently ongoing. Starnberger and Ammersee to our left. Seems someone is already waiting for us... ... but we still take our time and have a soft landing. Some tourists will have harder landings after consumption of the usual Wiesn menus...
  22. Just amazing this ground life, the details and the light in Innsbruck. I can´t take my eyes off ... Taxiing past the terminal... ... and taking off to the west (hey, wrong direction!). The paxes view to the Zirler pass... ... and here we replace the road map: You can see the road from Zirl (in the backgound right) north (right) of the airport through the city, passing the railway station and down to the Brennerautobahn in the left of this picture. Escaping the mountains in direction to Linz... ... and here the turboprop passengers already see the Danube river. This is how jet passengers enjoy the same area. Vienna, from the flight deck. And finally taxiing the Austrian way (sorry I don´t have the real life comparison shot, I was quite surprised to see that) ... ... towards the gates. Well, the wrong ones, this is the international terminal. But at least we can step back and have a beautiful waiting hall over here.
  23. In the last chapter we finally reached Juneau, after a diversion to Whitehorse due to the weather, and produced some disappointed customers. Today these customers should be happy that we came back to pick them up! Ladies and Gentlemen, welcome aboard our flight back to Frankfurt, finally. Our route will take us roughly to the east to the Great Slave Lake, before turning north towards the Canadian Arctic Archipelago, over Greenland and crossing the Atlantic north of Iceland. We're then heading south along the coasts of Norway and Denmark. Flight time will be around 9 hours 20 minutes. As a compensation for your overnight stay in Juneau, Condor offers you a free extra sandwich. Enjoy the flight! "Mommy, when do we get our sandwich?" "Look at that, a cabin with smoke..." "Did I brief you for departure?" --"Umm yes?" This is a steeeeeep turn! Thankfully we made it over that mountain in the last pic and got a little direct to Yellowknife. "Why didn't we get a big direct to, say MERGI?" "Last night in the hotel, I had a nightmare. Do you want to hear it?" --"Does this involve a woman called Hilda?" "No! I dreamed that someone would steal our plane! Then he takes it to some rural town in America and makes aerobatics with it, and flaps 30 takeoff. Richtig krass!" "Flaps 30 takeoff? Hahahahahhahah! What a nonsense dream!" We cross the Great Slave Lake... ... and reach the northern side a few minutes later. Yellowknife is just to right of this picture... Much farther north... Welcome to Denmark! The sun is located in the north-east in this shot, at about 2:30 am local time. Leaving Greenland... Soaring south along the Danish coast... Rømø behind and Sylt below, we cross the German boarder. The Weser River, Bremerhaven at its mouth, the Jadebusen behind and in the background, the East Frisian Isles. The city of Bremen below. Northern Germany. On our descent near Frankfurt... The landscape is already quite different to the North German Plain. The Main River. At the near side, Bavaria, on the far side, Hesse. Touchdown runway 25L. Lufthansa 123 Sausage, eh Super, cleared for take off! "Hey, we are unloading your baggage for you! Didn't you like your sandwich?" That's it. The last flight of the Condor (so far)! I hope you enjoyed it chaps. Cheers!
  24. In contrast to the swiss tourism slogan ( https://www.myswitzerland.com/en/switzerland-get-natural.html ) I will travel over some POIs that are definitively not natural. Basel, ... ... this city is the key railway point when you travel between Germany and Switzerland, it is also the hometown of a number of chemical and pharmaceutical companies, e. g. Novartis, Roche, and Schweizerhalle, BASF, Ciba nearby. Just a short hop to the east you find Liestal. Oristalstrasse, probably well-known to @bernd1151 ? Another facility of Knoll, later DrugOn was located here - and it looks nearly real in openLC. Always nice to find this real weather when you are about to cross some mountains. So I had to cheat in order to discover Olten (another key point of rail travel)... Here we are at Zofingen. Not too detailed in the sim, it should show another fascinating inner city circle (and a chemical park to the west of the railway): Triengen should be in the background here... ... but we head on to the Zürichsee and turn over Wädenswil. We had a company office there with a beautiful view. Closing into Zurich, with the city to the left (where the Limmat river meets the lake), and the airport to the right. The sceneries blend really well here. This is the "official" borderline of GES to OpenLC, and the airport is also 3rd party. A little flare with the taildragger... ... and some bigger traffic ahead. The audience is ready to celebrate my successful landing.
  25. A typical plane and a typical last leg of some of my intercontinental flights: Boarding a turboprop in Copenhagen ... ... and leaving on the 22R - in the right direction already. Uuups, ice formation on engines and window... ... under control when leaving Sjaelland. And soon we are over Germany: Lübeck, ... ... Hamburg hidden in the background, ... ... Celle. With NDB CEL already being the entry point for our STAR ... ... into Hannover. Many lakes to the south of the final, like the Hufeisensee: As you can see we are heading for the 27R. Good to be here again, I think I have virtually left this place half a year ago. Or even longer...
