  1. ...he's my chopper... *groan* Heading towards the trail Passing one of the strips I was actually looking for the chopper memorial - but the weather was just too lousy with the clouds hanging right among the tips of the mountains This is what I saw most of the time Found the village south of Kokoda - but no helipad Ah, stuff it - I'll just have to try again after the weather gets better. Might as well have a coffee at Kokoda Slightly cropped DX10s Cheers Mallard
  2. After the amazing flight experience in PNG I took the (appropriate) jetliner to get back down under: A last view to Port Moresby... ... and leaving the tropical clouds behind. I have to thank Jon Murchinson for this great livery again... ... looks like my paxes, crew and I will need a sundowner soon: Approaching Cairns, ... ... downwind over the Barron river ... ... and parked to close this flight. Hybrid mode works nearly perfect - nearly, as I had some trouble with the runway lights at YBCS (I will test it with full Oceania mode and eventually place a reque

  6. ... cocodi, cocoda. If you see the German translation you know where the title of this post leads to: http://de.wikipedia.org/wiki/Der_Hahn_ist_tot_(Kanon) Starting in the morning in hazy Girua... ... and following the best navigation aid here: The road to Kokoda. At least there is some visibility at Kokoda valley: Ah, this looks like an airstrip! On short final after the 270° turn... ... and parked. Once again with the newspaper, but surrounded by backpackers that seem to be willing to take the easy way across the mountains: By air. We will see if this reall
  7. MAF P2-MFU Twin Otter out of Mt Hagen, PNG Link to repaint: http://forum.aerosoft.com/index.php?/files/file/2881-aerosoft-twin-otter-x-p2-mfu-mission-aviation-fellowship/ http://aussiex.org/forum/index.php?/files/file/4916-aerosoft-twin-otter-x-p2-mfu-mission-aviation-fellowship/
  8. So here we are, with the undoubted highlight of my PNG tour: The Kokoda bushstrip tour. As moonman pointed out, I should have enough fresh T-shirts in this humid region, so I was looking for some in this area ... First stop: Bodinumo. These details add to the experience... 2nd: Boridi. 3rd: Milei. Really my hardest task to slow down here. 4th is a relatively easy one: Timkenumo. 5th stop: Kagi. Not too hard with this plane either. 6th one: Launumu. 7th is Efogi. Looks easy, but I always slipped quickly to the west, be it landing or
  9. OK, let´s go up the hills from Kokoda - but first let me dry the shirts of the backpackers here ... First stop: Isurava. I am proud this landing worked on the first trial, though surrounded by trees. I´ll need to come back with our friend Bob, just to check the sounds of this amazing place. And I am sure there will be a day & time when the sun sets directly in the axis of this monument... Following the Kokoda track southwards... that looks like an abandoned airstrip to the right (near the village of Abuari) - which needs to be checked with a fixed wing AC sooner...
  10. Should have known I wouldn't get far after seeing this weather Well - here goes nothing Yeah, right. The closer I get to the strips, the fouler the weather gets... No real point in continuing here. Visibility was getting worse by the minute. So I got out of the plane and asked the bloke at the tent if he needed a hand in bringing in his washing Cheers Mallard
  11. After some fun on the slopes of PNG it's time to head back "home". Think I'll take the classy bird this time... Great Barrier Reef ahead Cheers Mallard
  12. Cranked up the trused old Huey and checked out some of the airstrips along the Kokoda trail... Approaching Port Moresby Will give some of the strips a chance with a fixed-wing aircraft in the near future Cheers Mallard
  13. My new SSD arrived, so I can finally get around to installing all my new airports Here are a few first impressions from Monterey Port Moresby Kokoda And Fairoaks to Southampton (and "oldie") Just scratching the surfaces here, making sure that the installs are OK. I still have a whole batch including Seiku waiting for me Cheers Mallard (cropped DX10s, nothing else)
  14. Hi Just a couple of questions about AYPY, Jacksons and the placement of objects around the airport. I have noticed that there seems to be an aircraft embedded into one of the buildings at the edge of the airport. Now I know it does happen, as in Perivale, West London on the Vanguard building... ...so I'm not certain this is an error or not. There do seem to be a couple of mounting poles for it. The other 'anomaly' is the elevated lake on the flight path out of AYPY. Is this an error on my system or is anyone else getting it? I do have the freeware PNG Ho

  17. Jon Murchison did us the favour to create one of the best fitting liveries for the connection to PNG: The 1980´s Airbus "Big Bird": Taking off northwards from Cairns (in Global Hybrid mode, so not with the full details of Oceania); North Queensland coast ... ... and the Barrier Reef, as long as it´s there: A good hour later, the downwind to AYPY: Final: And enjoying ground service: A big THANK YOU, Jon! PS: Find the livery on http://www.flightsim.co.nz/
