  1. And the second purchase from the deal-day at CS: The "Australian" 767. Here on an inland flight from Melbourne back to its home base Cairns. Cluttered in with the ground services Another peek By the time everything was ready it had started to rain. Looks like the landscape could do with a drop of water, though... Essendon on the right Clearing up En route And (much) further north... I love this approach Hm. Thought I had the autobrakes on? But I still managed to overshoot the exit... Cheers
  2. Lugging in a load of Japanese tourists! (I was inspired by the one screenie I made in the eggbeater series where the traffic sign written in Japanese could be seen) On one of the Google Earth pics from some years ago one can actually see a 747 at Cairns - so the airport can handle them... The next morning I ferried a Qantas Queen to Brisbane Heavens, that bird is sluggish... Under the nose: Caloundra. Wonder if Brad saw me passing overhead... Spooky sitting up so high. You think you still have a bit to go, and suddenly the u
  3. That´s a pleasure to fly - even before understanding the systems...! Responsive in manual mode (not easy to slow down when approaching), and with autotrim / autopilot suitable for relaxed flying - makes it a good toy for exploring sceneries. Currently on sale somewhere else, if I might say that.
  4. Some more from a test flight from Cairns Intl heading SSW towards Lake Barrine - the remains of an ancient volcano... Buzzing the hospital on the way Still no crocs in sight Entering the hinterland Lake Barrine ahead Cheers Mallard
  5. Testing my new Bell 412 between the hospital and airport at Carins. Landing at the hospital. Departing and taking the scenic route back to the airport - the blue and white building in the background was where I stayed during my visit to Cairns some years ago. And I had a good view of the chopper landing zone By the time I was "cold and dark" I finally also mastered the doors Cheers Mallard
  6. Testing the "new" lights on an evening flight from Cairns to Mareeba and back... The lights are nice and not too harsh. And now for the return flight at night... Mareeba in the background Interesting to see where the upgraded lighting ends (in the background), and the dedicated Cairns lighting begins. @ the devs - any way to harmonise the two different levels of intensity? Well - it looks like I'll get to fly in this great night-time cockpit a bit more in the future Cheers Mallard
  7. Just a little tour around the stunning Cairns scenery. I have to add that maxing all sliders and features do not cause OOM problems here, as they (unfortunately) do in YMML and YBBN... Heading back north... Green Island below: Configured for autoland...
  8. Following a suggestion by Jarrad, I just took an immediate turn from Cairns on the way to Leila´s... ... and followed the (Barron?) river up into the mountains. By comparison with the surrounding, this might be the Barron Falls. But no fall to be seen... is it just the wrong season, missing detail in the scenery or did I go wrong? Is there anyone who knows?
  9. Only managed to make quick drive-by visits and posts to the forum lately - And I'll just go ahead and use this post to say that there have been some quite impressive pics posted (too many to comment them individually) Anyway - while I'm at it some pics from a recent trip from Cairns to Hamilton Island, inspired by some of the great sets posted over the last few days. Damn it gets dark quickly around here... As usual straight, but slightly cropped v-keys. Cheers Mallard
  10. Taking off from Cairns, and checking the traffic over there... ... before turning to the inland... ... across Leila´s airstrip: It´s coming home, it´s coming home: Mareeba town... ... and airfield: Heading south, to Atherton. A bit too foggy for a coffee break... ... but Millstream was just fine. Good to be back in the livery´s home region!
  11. Switched to a scheduled flight from Cairns to Brisbane... Passing the Townsville area The Whitsundays on the horizon Passing Caloundra (far, far away...) Approaching Brisbane Some cropping. Cheers Mallard
  12. ... I did not miss any episode of Jacques Cousteau´s expeditions. >http://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_detailpage&v=Idxae5NnCuo (begin to watch it at 3:33) So it was an easy decision for me when I was asked to join a Great Barrier tour with his successors. Departing from Townsville...: ... the weather was not looking so good (FSX real weather, REX clouds): But after some minutes heading north, the colourful spots appeared. Simply fascinating views, I felt: Fitzroy Island in the background: Meeting colleagues at Vlassoff Cay... ..
  13. Shortly after the Jetstar Airbus (http://www.orbxsystems.com/forum/topic/66880-heading-even-more-south/) a Qantas Boeing service started on the same route. Leaving Cairns... Hamilton Island: Lining up for Brisbane: Configured, but closely followed...: Ready for autoland: Full braking, in order to leave the runway quickly - heavy traffic here...: Uuuups, while taxiing my fps dropped under 10. Followed by FSX crash. I feel, YBBN needs a reduction of AI traffic for me...
  14. Now I found some time to test #2 from the list, quite a challenge to program the FMS. Took off too steep (maybe not very comfortable for the 100 paxes), ... ... but managed to get the plane controlled then. FSX real weather, not so bad looking (with REX clouds). Approaching Cairns ILS15, by far too close behind the RFDS...: Shutdown. So much to learn on this bird. And the first step will now be getting a local paint.
  15. Just pulled another one out of my hangar: this is an Airspeed AS.57 Ambassador, a British Twin of the 1950s and 1960s (first flown in 1947). Ambassadors mainly were operated by BEA and, and as shown here, by Autair. Later some machines were sold to Australia (Butler Air Transport, absorbed by Ansett), Switzerland and Norway. Thanks for viewing
  16. A few days back I mentioned that I fixed my TrackIR myself. Well - with some of the money I saved on having the repairs done in a shop I decided to treat myself to something new... So here are some from my usual test-run Townsville -> Cairns in my new PMDG BAe Jetstream 4100 Yeah - a bit high. But I made it down in one piece... And then I thought about a quick flight around Canberra This time it was much smoother than the Cairns approach Some cropping. Cheers Mallard
  17. Hello, This is my first posting for assistance in years. I have many Orbx/FTX products installed and I have always been able to get them compatibly installed and running with all of my FSX applications.... that is, until just now with the Cairns Airport (YBCS). I had a nominal installation of of YCBS, and have repeated the install once just to be sure, tried setting FTX set on Oceania and also on Global/Hybrid, and each time I try and initiate a flight at FBCS, or even fliy into it from adjoining airspace, my FSX stops running and I am kicked-out to FSX with the usual "FSX has stopped resp
  18. During a short round around Cairns my 12-year-old copilot took control again. She was fascinated by the scenery, ... ... but not by the ATC: She was forced to go around. However, going around helped us to discover this hockey field just south of rwy 15: Precisely made, already prepared with the additional circles for small field playing, and the club house just next to the pitch for a cold one after playing (or before, respectively). I wonder if you can ignore the umpires during heavy metal take-offs there ...
  19. Still need to adjust to the southern hemisphere...
  20. Townsville to Cairns in a A330-200 Enjoy and thanks for looking!
  21. OK - it was a downright pain in the *%$e and it took me three days to get it going - but now I'm on the DX10 bandwagon. Here are some tests from flights around Cairns and Queenstown. Most of the sliders are maxed - and the framerates are great! Set the time a bit forward - FTX night and vector lights working beautifully I still have some tweaking to do to get SweetFX to show the colours as I would like them to look... Some cropping. Cheers Mallard
  22. Approaching Broome in my spanking new 146. Might even make it in time to watch the sun go down over Cable Beach with a nice cold long drink in my hand... The rampies are on strike here as well? You've got to be kidding... Hm. I just might reconsider the drink at the beach bit and stay on this balcony for a while. Unless I manage to persuade the Lady in Red to join me Down on the Beach... (Hey, Gerold! Two song titles in one sentence! Not bad, eh?) Of course I made my initial test of the new bird at Cairns - as usual. But I didn't really reckon wi
  23. Was listening to Ozzy Osbourne's "Flying high again"... during the first part of this series Some cropping. Cheers Mallard
  24. Some from my usual test-run-for-new-planes from Cairns to Townsville (and back) Love that silhouette... but this is - in my humble opinion - also a beauty Was coming in a bit slow - so I had to rev the engines... Sorry about the smoke Some cropping. Cheers Mallard
