  1. I do not think they are out of there depth at all.I have it and I find it really promising.Yeah has some issues but people need to realise it is early access. Remember FSX being launched,I still have the boxed version it has the statement "even better in windows vista" LOL .That being a promise of great things to come using DX10,that never happened until a recent third party add on ,DX10 scenery fixer.I have FSX boxed Steam edition and P3d ver 3.2 all have issues.I would say certainly P3d has been a constant form of early access.Yeah it runs ok now later versions than mine probably better still.I just got tired of constantly needing to uninstall and reinstall different iterations of the product, then waiting for 3rd party devs to catch up with their updates.Still had constant vas issues and oom errors. My point being that even these platforms have their issues, but they have been around for many years.I am just happy to see a new player on the scene it gives me hope that the genre will survive and get stronger. The people who are moaning about issues with FSW either don't have it or have tried it for a few moments and cosigned it to the bin, silly. Those moaning about future costs to upgrade it should it allow further 3rd party add ons well it is like all decisions in life,if you want it and like it then do it,if it's not for you then don't.I made that decision with p3d I STILL like it but it frustrates me with it;s limitations,so I no longer invest in it.Let us a least give it a chance and some positive bug reporting or ideas for improvement will help a lot more than simply sniping at it.At least these guys at DTG have given it a go. Gary
  2. I for one am looking forward to this,I have not touched either FSX OR P3D for over 8/9 months, simply fed up of there respective limitations. I am realistic about this new Sim FSW it being basically an updated version of "old" software is a concern. What are faults with the old code may be sorted maybe not,ok we will not have the Ooms issues but load times and rendering of realistic scenery/environments do worry me.However great that Dovetail has at least had a go.Another issue I see from the start and yes I Realise it is early access is that it seems to be solely focused on GA aircraft. With that said I have no inside knowledge about the product and may be proven wrong.Or simply that these may be added (presumably at a cost) in later updates. With all that said this is no way a gripe and I REALLY wish it well and hope we all get at least some of what we like. Gary
  3. Dovetail flight school is a closed platform. However regarding the "full fat" sim later this year that is said to be open to third party devs, and add ons,at least that is what I have read regarding it.Time will tell I guess.
  4. Found these funnies whilst reading genuine complaints received by tech support.Thought they were worth a showing on here. Enjoy. (P = The problem logged by the pilot.) (S = The solution and action taken by the engineers.) P: Left inside main tyre almost needs replacement. S: Almost replaced left inside main tyre. P: Test flight OK, except auto-land very rough. S: Auto-land not installed on this aircraft. P: Something loose in cockpit. S: Something tightened in cockpit. P: Dead bugs on windshield. S: Live bugs on backorder. P: Autopilot in altitude-hold mode produces a 200 feet per minute descent. S: Cannot reproduce problem on ground. P: Evidence of leak on right main landing gear. S: Evidence removed. P: DME volume unbelievably loud. S: DME volume set to more believable level. P: Friction locks cause throttle levers to stick. S: That's what they're there for. P: IFF inoperative. S: IFF always inoperative in OFF mode. P: Suspected crack in windshield. S: Suspect you're right. P: Number 3 engine missing. S: Engine found on right wing after brief search. P: Aircraft handles funny. S: Aircraft warned to straighten up, fly right, and be serious. P: Target radar hums. S: Reprogrammed target radar with lyrics. P: Mouse in cockpit. S: Cat installed. P: Noise coming from under instrument panel. Sounds like a midget pounding on something with a hammer. S: Took hammer away from midget.
  5. Beautiful video,nice effect/Thanks for sharing. Gary
  6. Regarding post id 18 should read" early retirement",see even though it's early senility is creeping in.
  7. Thank you so much,it seems there is so much choice out there.I am easily confused,I have followed both you and Kilstorms videos with great interest and looks like an exciting new interest to get into, unfortunately Golf and Fly Fishing off the menu following a few spinal operations so this looks like a good candidate to get me back in the "wild outdoors" again. Thanks again for the heads up. Regards. Gary
  8. Hi Howard excellent work on both the footage and video. Can I please ask the make and model of the drone and camera used in this piece,it's something I have been looking at getting involved in since my "early".I would just like a bit more info if your'e not too busy with the new cockpit and drone work. Thanks in advance. Gary
  9. Those fence posts in the "real" shot, well they just don't look right .....mwuhahahha
  10. I always struggled with the general interface with X Plane, I did have it installed for a while but found, for me anyway, too many parameters to set before flying. I guess I am easily confused ,lol
  11. Not being deliberately obtuse but abstruse is,for me difficult to understand.
  12. So,absolutely nothing to get excited about whatsoever then.Still the same patched up crappy software and they want more money to boot you gotta laugh really. Oh well there is the "improved memory handling",well the that's well worth the money,,,,,,,,,not. Ah well keep looking and waiting for something better to,maybe come along,I for one shall be sticking with 2.4 and see no reason to move from that. Until some quantum leap comes about it is simply not worth the hassle of breaking all the compatible stuff I have installed at the moment and the thought of the reinstall from 2.4 to 3.00 just not worth the sweat.Progress ? not
  13. Oh I completely agree Stew,I too can take the sims for what they are, basically a nice relaxing pc game,a break from the chaos of shooters etc.And I love the experience, having always had a thing for planes and airports etc to me the sims offer just a nice peaceful break from work life etc and with Orbx and others some nice eyecandy to boot. That said I am also a big time lover of PC gaming always have been probably always will.So to me "new" excites me.It is simply a wish to see a major leap forward in a genre I love that I hope something good comes of any potential new sim.I would like one to work out of the box so to speak,no tweaking, modern graphics and no constant OOM's. But as you say we have all invested a small fortune in this so far,but IF something truly good comes out, something we all would hope for, well isn't there that tiny bit of us all that will throw caution to the wind a buy into the new kid? As they say, shrouds don't have pockets, and as long as I can sneak it by the missus If its good I am going for it.Conjecture I know, time will tell. Cheers. Gary
  14. The link in post above I wasn't aware of so thanks for that alcliff So with Dovetail, the guys in the link above and then I stumbled across this news. http://www.flightsimulated.com/navy-ship-simulator/. Maybe some hope that we can finally break free of the drudgery of FSX and P3D respectively. All credit to Orbx at least for the massive improvements they have made to both these ailing sims,It will be nice if any of these do actually materialise, one lives in hope.Decent as they have been they are both creaking at the edges and I feel if a decent successor comes along they will be consigned to the recycle bin,and not a day too soon for me. Gary
  15. Have you tried Liquid nails,Noel,?quick and easy and with a bit of luck they may remain hanging for at least 3 or 4 weeks of opening and closing.By which time you will be off the hook re your serious stuff of re-install.......lol Good luck. Gary
