  1. Not that a lot of you will care, but has anyone even considered the possibility that maybe, just maybe, it is the (insert sarcasm) Oh So Glorious End All Be All Best Payment System In The World....PayPal....that might be in the wrong here? Why do so many of you automatically get mad at Orbx? We, the customers, do NOT know what is going on behind the curtains. We....don't.....know.... Let's put out the torches, back down from the gates and stop 'storming the castle'. We, the customers, do NOT have a crystal ball. Now unless some of you are spies or something, I heartily suggest you all cease th

  2. For the folks trying to squeeze out bits and pieces of information, I will provide the entirety of what we will discuss publicly unless John chooses to disclose more. Remember that we are a business, and it is not of the nature of businesses to disclose the entirety of their dealings: After the launch of OrbxDirect, we encountered a significant issue with PayPal that jeopardizes all of transactions through the payment method and interrupts continuity of business. We have suspended PayPal as a payment method on our own decision when we could not reach a resolution after several wee

  3. Man, this community is a tough one. Alex did his best to explain in as amicable of a way possible without defaming Paypal or creating some resentment towards their business. But the attacks continue. By "attacks" I dont mean the people who are saying that they prefer using paypal for convenience or security reasons, but those who think that ORBX is conspiring to take advantage of a sale or dont care for their customers. Its perplexing. Is this is the same company that has single handedly transformed flight simulation for us and releases more freeware than any other developer on the

  4. Thanks to you all and especially to Alex. A read of all five pages does show that every angle of this unfortunate occurrence has been both explained as far as possible and speculated about enough. Please be as patient as you can until the matter is resolved.

  5. There is two things that are constants with FTX/ORBX: 1 - Released products have an extremely high quality level. 2 - The company have an extremely high level of disrespect for their customers I used to buy almost every single product, however since the infamous pre-release followed by a sale event, what I bought can be counted on a single hand. The new FSS episode, followed by this, cause you to lose customers and degrade your reputation, one bit at a time. It's almost a school case on "how to alienate customers and push them toward competition while selling

  6. hi, Sorry by advance, i will not be very pleasant but : As a lot of customers, i only buy with paypal (and i will not change). so i could be great to have this option to come back. I understand, it cost a little for you, but winning more money must not be done against user/customers experience. your have started orbx direct too early (propably because of christmas coming) , with bugs, with missing basic functionnalities, with a too small infrastructure for download, and now, you remove paypal. what will be the next "surprise" ? Sincerely

  7. Please keep it focused, personal attacks and general disrespect are not necessary. We understand your frustrations and I am trying to keep this thread focused on giving customers a space to raise their concerns about PayPal being suspended.

  8. Well, since many years Paypal is my preferred payment method for internet transactions. If Orbx will hold on the decision to suspend payments via Paypal, then you will really have a very, very big issue with your customers like me. I'm a great fan of Orbx software and i bought very much (if not almost) in the last years via FSS and OrbxDirect: but without Paypal as a simple, fast and secure payment method i'll not do any more purchases. VERY SORRY ABOUT THAT!

  9. Credit Card as only payment option? You do realise that in Europe, especially in Germany credit cards are very uncommon?

  14. What is so special about Orbx that a widespread payment method could jeopardize your business? What are the other companies doing different? But honestly, I am not interested in the internals. I am interested in not spreading my payment data over the internet, that's why I chose paypal - aside from other benefits from a customer point of view. It is simply a security measure. Let's put it this way: A shop that doesn't accept paypal doesn't meet my requirements. It's as simple as that. Would love to buy Hammerfest though (and Innsbruck, and...)

  15. My primary role at Orbx is a developer, who dabbles in the community side administrating the forums and interacting on Facebook. So to speak candidly, I have a very large personal stake in this that you have noted. Naturally I want customers to have the greatest access to products possible, which is a view shared all the way up. But we cannot let one payment gateway jeopardize our business which is why PayPal was suspended.

  16. Alex, I think from the reaction of many of us here, you guys might see ultimately more damage done to your bottom line from loosing customers than from whatever issues your company has now with Paypal. It might also affect your developers, as they see their business dwindle from reduced purchases. So let us hope in the interest of all three parties (your customer, your developer and ORBX) that you will solve the paypal issue soonest, so that we can go back to what we, your customers, like best: buying your wonderful products. Good luck!

  17. John may choose to discuss specifics but we typically do not delve deeply into business matters publicly. We have a very serious business issue with PayPal, serious enough that we are willing to forego the substantial customer-base using it until it has been resolved. This is not an action taken lightly or as a way to strong-arm customers into one payment method or another. Until then, we can assure that credit and debit cards processed through OrbxDirect are handled securely by Stripe. Our own site is secured with TLS 1.2 protocol, which then connects to Stripe's API over TLS as

  19. The Curtiss Jenny... Between Cork and Waterford in Ireland. This is an old FS2004 model that was modded to work in FSX... I'm now trying to run it in P3D but have an issue with getting it moving on the ground {it simply doesn't even under full power}. If I slew it into the air I can then fly as normal and I assume there is something in the wrong location, or under a wrong setting value in P3D for this AC in the aircraft cfg... I have no clue in this area. If anyone knows how to remedy this I would be grateful. Thank you for looking

  20. I agree it's totally unfair to argue with Alex who really does the best he can do. Despite, we should clearly formulate our opinions on this decision. I already did. I have been liking ORBX for a long time, but this year brought a number of deep hits for many of us. I wholeheartedly would wish ORBX for the next year to return to the tradition making headlines with outstanding scenery rather than half-baked innovations. Kind regards, Michael

  24. This is a business decision folks and not one we have taken lightly as we know that PayPal was heavily utilised on our storefront. For us to have reached that decision one can maybe appreciate the complexity of the issue that has since arisen - especially during a major sale. We don't have to disclose the full story as to why, that's our prerogative, so no more speculation please. Alex has answered most of the concerns raised.

  25. The comments here are laughable. I will use my credit card no problem. The conspiracy theories, the "disgraceful state of affairs" comments are ridiculous. Thanks Alex for explaining.

  26. You can choose to believe what is written or not, regardless I have laid out the facts as plainly as possible. Those who have done business with PayPal from the merchant side may understand what we are dealing with at the moment. I have not dedicated my day to this thread for the purpose of lying, I am here to provide as much information as possible to understandably concerned customers. I could have just as easily never logged in all day and left this for others to attend to, but I wanted to make sure customers were getting the clearest information possible at a time when trust is wavering.

  27. Still very vague but thanks for trying Alex... This is a major bummer and will be a serious roadblock for many going forward. I wish Orbx could have waited for the sale to end before doing this

  28. It seems that ORBX has pretty much laid everything out, but only giving bits and pieces of the reasoning behind ORBX's decision, feels like a wacked out game of 20 questions.

  29. We did not violate a PayPal policy. Guys, rampant speculation does nothing to restore PayPal or improve the situation. I have laid out the facts of the matter, we ran into an issue with PayPal that severely disrupted our business. I want to keep the thread open for the sake of discussion and assistance but I'm not going to allow it to be the conspiracy theory zone.

  30. Never heard of Stripe but here's a nice article if anyone interested. Since none of us have a financial stake in Orbx, I think we should give JV and team the benefit of the doubt and just step back and reserve judgement. PayPal may be a household name but they aren't the only player in town. https://www.merchantmaverick.com/paypal-vs-stripe/

  31. In relation to this, might I suggest establishing a "Customer Advisory Committee"? It could be made up of 8-10 of us (need to keep the number small to be manageable) and Orbx could run major changes past the committee first to gauge reaction. Once the dust settles with the committee, then you make a General Announcement to the forum audience.

  32. What!!! No PayPal!!!!!................wait.......I don't care, I'm still gonna buy stuff But, Seriously I do feel bad for the people who for whatever the reason need this option. I'm also a Paypal user but don't see this as a big deal and will find a workaround to keep my transactions safe. Cheers Greg Z

  33. @Alex I know about this but may I add: Many people in Germany don't have a credit card (Kreditkarte) you mentioned above. (and most of them they don't need it) Predominatly in use is a so called "Bankkarte" (bank card or service card) which the bank offers to his customers having an account. Aside from cash this card is the daily use for getting money from the cash terminal or is in use as debit- or credit card (a national German debit card system "Electronic cash") to pay for you purchases in stores.

  34. Agreed Greg. My credit card and bank card were hacked consecutively over a year ago and I never want to go through that pain again. I can't praise Paypal enough for their due diligence in looking out for their customers, not to mention the acceptance being so widely accepted for trouble free transactions. I JUST had an issue last wekk with an online retailer who I paid a significant amount of money to, only to have the product not be delivered. The C/S agents gave me the runaround, so I turned to Paypal and within a half an hour, I got my refund...that is service.

  35. For me, I really don't care. PayPal or CC makes no difference for me when buying Orbx products. It makes when donating for freeware software developers and eBay. Now, I want to test this when Orbx releases LOWI. Make it happen!!!

  36. Very disappointing! This decision makes a bad day especially for German customers. In Germany credits cards are not in common use in comparison to North America. This could result in a loss of customers.

  38. Hi all, We understand your frustrations in PayPal being suspended and recognize that PayPal is a preferred method of payment for many consumers, and the only viable method for others. I want to put to rest and clarify that this move was not done as a result of PayPal fees or as a way to shift fees to consumers. Our main payment gateway, Stripe, has a similar fee structure and it is naturally merchant-based. Transaction fees have always been structured into product pricing and were not a factor in deciding to suspend PayPal transactions. Our suspension of PayPal was done

  39. I also have the same type of position at a large bank and agree 100% with this post. You guys would not believe what is happening behind the scenes. NONE of it ever hits the news. Paypal offers an extra "buffer" between us and the vendor. In the past 4 months, I have had 3 separate CC numbers stolen. One of them was a brand new card that was only active for 4 weeks! (No, I did not have a trojan/virus on my computer.) These CCs were not tied to Paypal. Over the past year though, I have found myself using Paypal as the middle man and prefer this method of payment,

  40. Explain please? I think that the folks at ORBX are in general amazing. Companies take financial decision sometime and that is a fact, like I did with my shop, I simply stopped taking credit card 2 years ago because of the stupid fees. I remember lately that John was talking about the cost of bandwidth... and they would shut up and digest it. It's a small company that is trying to make money and not loose some. Now here is an easy solution for you guys, get a prepaid credit card. Well they call it a credit card but that is false. There is no credit on it, no minus.

  42. Do you hear that sucking sound? It is the sound of cash flow going out the virtual door, flowing right over to other websites that accept generally accepted payment mechanisms. I still have about 4 purchases from AS that I was delaying. Sorry Finni. really was planning to make that day 1 purchase.

  43. JV, were you aware of this? This is absurd. Paypal offers a lot more than convenience. Please let me know when you are ready to start selling scenery again, because I would like to purchase the latest one (I own all of them, until today).
