I took the new BOB around EGHI Southampton with all P3Dv2.5 shadows maxxed. I don't fly with all shadows maxxed as it chews a lot of performance and doesn't really make much of a visual difference when viewed from the air, but they do look good on the ground.2 points

This afternoon I'm making a short flight from Alesund to Trondheim in Norway to sightsee the fjords when to my surprise I flew right by my ancestral home. I fly with an airport ID utility that I park in the upper left part of the screen and it tells me the name of the nearest city with an airport. Suddenly Baverfjord pops up and an airport named Gravvold, my grandmother's maiden name. Of course I have to bring up the GPS and there it is, right off to my right. So I throttle back and set up for a landing. It's a small grass strip and I missed the first approach. Good thing I'm f1 point

If you have the Northern California scenery then KMRY is a must in my opinion. I was somewhat disappointed with the NC scenery as the Monterey area was very generic, but the KMRY add-on fixes that completely. Having Pacific Grove, Cannery Row, the wharf, etc. modeled in great detail add tremendously to the experience, as those are all landmarks you see close-up on approach (or departure, depending on which way you're going). I would suggest turning off some of the static ramp aircraft, as there are way too many (compare the Orbx scenery with the Google satellite view of KMRY and you'll see wha1 point

I'll try to answer some of your questions…. Yes, pilot can sometimes track or tune the wrong NavAid but that is very rare. In order to pass the IFR flight test we are taught to always tune and identify every navaid with its morse code identifier. Also many hours of IFR training helps to make sure we are not making mistakes when flying IFR, regardless of GPS or traditional. Yes GPS can fail sometimes. Not receiving RAIM (receiver autonomous integrity monitoring) where the GPS constantly monitors the error between 5 satellites. If it detects error in time, your GPS will not have R1 point

I would gladly hand over my credit card, several times, to get a Korea, Japan and HK sceneries by ORBX. ANY DAY. ANY TIME. I am an Korean-born, Canadian-raised and working in Macau and H.K for my company assignment at the moment.. As Korean, should ORBX come up with RKSI Incheon airport and Seoul Cityscape....that would just make my life flip apart and I would take a sick leave from my company just to fly that for a week And as many people above.. Asia would be a tremendous welcome for many simmers not just in Asia but across the world. There are really a lot of interesting plac1 point

I can't believe I haven't seen these photos or this thread until now. Wow! Awesome thread Sammy. You really can say, "been there, done that!". I spend a lot of my sim time in military aircraft and around aircraft carriers, so to see such pics of the real thing is incredible. And the Blue Angels... What can I say, you're a lucky guy (though I'm sure you worked hard too:)) Thanks a lot for sharing the pics and you're stories. Cheers,1 point

Great sets of photos SammyH. I have also learnt something about our FA18's (i.e. Aussie) I was not aware that ours are also Aircraft Carrier capable with the tilted wingtips and tailhooks.1 point

I feel so bad for him. I also should state that we all should take a life lesson in here and try no to be mean to each other wether we agree to disagree we should always try to be nice and kind. This world is filed with so much hate already and we never know when that person will be gone from this life. Thank you avsim for all the freeware you give us and Tom we will keep you in our prayers1 point

We all have our own thoughts on AVSIM as an entity. Truth be told, if you want information on just about anything flight sim, you are most likely to find it there. It is, indeed, the largest repository of flight simulation knowledge anywhere. Heartfelt wishes to the man and his loved ones.1 point

No, tree textures are only loaded once, then the same texture is used for every instance. The total amount of textures in FTX Trees HD would be less than a HD airliner cockpit or a set of HD clouds.1 point

Use a download manager as OrbX freeware has a tendency to be corrupted if you only use your usual browser default downloader. See http://www.orbxsystems.com/forum/topic/82288-corrupt-download-cant-unzip-please-read-here/ I use the free FDM to my complete satisfaction.1 point

See JV's response on this: http://www.orbxsystems.com/forum/topic/94339-ftx-trees-hd-from-me/?p=857266 He said, "..., you'll be able to switch between FTX Trees HD and the normal FTX trees just by selecting a tick box in FTX Central 2". That convinced me, I'm buying this product when it's released.1 point

This looks astonishingly good! Please consider adding an option for "regular" resolution textures for those who are more mindful of VAS. I'd use these trees at a lower resolution for the the improved colour matching alone for flights where VAS is likely to be an issue, and then use the HD textures when flying the low and slow stuff for sightseeing1 point

In aviation be prepared for all outcomes or failures. Cross check your GPS vs NAVAIDS at intervals to establish that their information is reliable. What would you do if you had a lightning strike or an electrical failure. While that might primarily be a real world problem , it does highlight a consideration that should occassionally be taken into account in the sim. Mid flight , you loose all your avionics , Where geographically are you ? What do you do now ? If you had maintained a flight log at specified time intervals complete with positive fixes you can go back to your last1 point
