  5. Hi everyone, Over the past few months, there have been some hints that there is a new FTX Central in the works. There are a lot of new features that have been added that I think you will all like. Keep in mind that FTX Central is very much in an alpha state at the moment - some features may be removed or changed. Simulator support The new FTX Central has been designed with extensibility in mind. As soon as you start it up, you will be presented with a list of simulators that you currently have installed on your computer (if you only have one sim, it will select it automatically). Upda

  20. Intel mobos use ram modules in dual channel mode for best performance - not getting this right halves the data your ram can transfer if you have 2 ram modules and four ram slots it is very important to check which slots the ram should be in for dual channel mode it is not always slot 1 and slot 3 On my mine it is slot 2 and 4 i have never seen it setup as slot 1 and slot2 4 identical ram modules in all 4 slots, all ram is working in dual channel mode by default but it is actually more effective to have 2x 8 gig than 4x4 using all 4 slots. Only Intel 2011 chipsets can run 4 lanes of da

  23. As an air traffic controller, I've heard lots of these exchanges, there are thousands out there in control tower and centre line-books. My favourite is this: A 757 was having a particularly difficult approach to an airfield in severe cross winds and some violent windshear, and was being thrown all over the place. The captain was a woman and and eventually did a very good landing despite the really bad conditions. On roll- out, the controller said " Very nice landing ma'am" and before she could reply there was an anonymous transmission of " I agree, but can she park it!" Kev

  31. Aaah.... as long as you're having fun.. 2 x 8gig or 4 x 4gig dimms fits a lot better than 2 x 7gig, or maybe 3 x 4gig and a single 2gig, doesn't it!... I mean... they all look the same, don't they? All pretty colors and spikey stuff... Y'know - I once scored negative on an IQ test.. All the best, pj

  34. Bret- I went to you tube and found a video specifically to my motherboard's specs as far as overclocking and I did so. I bought my system from 3.6Ghz to 4.2Ghz. Everything seemed to be pretty straight-forward and the entire process took about 40-45 minutes.( Clock time was about 3 hours since I reviewed the information over and over to make certain I heard and followed it correctly). I have noticed a slight improvement already especially in places like Harvey where my system struggled. Paul- I haven't had time to fully read your latest suggested readings yet, I did however read the prio

  35. Off topic slightly, but the very best person to assist one in overclocking the 4790K, Brett is Nick Needham, in this thread here. There are a number of video's on the weeb, for sure, but none of them walk through the entire process of safely overclocking - nor how much time and detail should be devoted to this job. Watching a video is only a brief introduction to overclocking a modern proc. Spread over many sections, Nick's Haswell guide has to be the longest "read" since the Encyclopaedia Brittanica, but in summary, it covers in-depth the initial setup of the system prior to any loading,

  36. You'll enjoy them a lot, Angus. Treat yourself to NZMF as well, while you're at it! The great thing about NZ is that it has very varied topography packed into a tiny space so you never have to go very far. I made one or two few DX10 tweaks for it, so if anyone wants them please PM me! I must admit I was surprised (and impressed) by the quality of the sound set. A heap of work must have gone into this add-on over the years. There are over 80 liveries in the install! Thanks for the nice comments! Adam.

  37. Hi there, not a bad idea but a global waterclass add-on would be a huge undertaking. The default FSX/P3D waterclass system actually uses a very sound approach: for each sq km of water surface it combines water depth, temperature zone, and plankton content to select one of the 60 available texture sets. The reason it often looks misplaced is that the available global data sources just aren't sufficiently accurate, both spatially and in terms of content, to do a good job at the 1-sq km level. Thus, pretty much the only method to significantly improve on this is via manual placement of th

  38. You don't want to be installing all that bloat ware "GeForce experience" rubbish. Far better for your pc to be lean and rely on manual updates than have a program going out and looking for updates and goodness knows what else when ever it feels like it
