  1. P3D v2 is not FS11 and people should not treat it as such, LM did not buy fsx from microsoft, they brought ESP which is the base code fsx uses with out any service packs. Anyone can buy ESP from microsoft if they wish. Some people might not qualify for P3D as it is a commercial training product ( see the prepar3d website for more information about that ), The level you have been educated to in part decides what versions you might be entitled to but you need to check the Prepar3d website for more information. There is way to much hype about v2 now and people will set themselvs up for a

  2. P3D is effectively FSX, with a few upgrades. I'm not sure I totally understand the licensing, but the fact they chose to include the JustFlight Constellation as a default aircraft might suggest its not really designed as a serious training aid. I think FSX was sold to Lockheed Martin with certain provisos, which is reflected in the legal jargon. Basically, you can buy the "academic" licence, which gives you FSX with softer weather blending, and a really annoying (and time consuming) menu option. I.e., it will load into a default flight, but subsequent changes to airport location, weather and a

  3. Not important, to me anyway. Any compatibility will be a bonus, but I'd rather see LM break compatibility with existing products to make a better engine than continue with outdated code. Addons can always be updated to suit the new engine.

  4. With FTXGlobal giving us such nice ground textures it's time to for me to get rid of photoreal airports. Airports are not supposed to stand out like sore thumbs 50 miles away. I am going through my addon photoreal airports in the default world outside the Orbx regions and either getting rid of the photoreal textures or deleting the airport entirely. The example below is of an airport with photoreal and photoreal removed. Which fits in better for you?

  6. Now that my wishes from October 2011 have come true (http://www.orbxsystems.com/forum/topic/37602-gex-type-of-software/?hl=simmerhead2#entry327776) I respectfully make another wish: FTX Traffic. Since ORBX by far is the leading FSX/P3D scenery company I would like to have more ORBX and less of anything else in my scenery collection. Don't get me wrong. I'm all for competition, but FSX is such an unstable platform that I've decided to keep things as simple as possible, hence I don't like to mix addons from many different makers. So if ORBX would ever decide to create traffic package

  10. I have a ton invested too, but FSX is such a dog and is so consistently problematic that I'd bin it all and start from scratch if I had to, as long as P3D2 moved convincingly away from all that. Of course we know it's going to be largely compatible, so that worst-case scenario isn't likely to happen.

  17. Mmm. Not very nice for the Fly Tampa guys. Me I'm still enjoying them once in a wile, saying like they look like FS 02 is pretty insulting to them. Ben

  18. Hi, the best of this anouncement is, that the old discussions comming back Remember when FSX startet, or FS 98, or... Everyone ist happy with the old Sim, and flying the new one the next Day Angry about the less frames, because new sims needs new hardware. I will do what I ever do. Looking for the first impressions, buy it, fly it, love it, hate it ,buy new hardware and waiting of the next version to start cycle again.......

  21. no worries ZIGGY, sometimes people have difficulties reading what is written, they tend to create their own "interpretations" and there is where the mis-communication starts

  23. That'd be great if it were to happen Capt, especially given the presence of others there. Unfortunately though, I can't afford that pint and packet of crisps now since John lowered the airport prices

  24. I'd be keen for this too. There's a lot of competition in the airline area, but some GA planes, or even better putting bushplanes into Alaska and Canada, would be great. There don't seem to be very many small GA type AI aircraft out there at the moment, free or payware.

  25. Cool shots Martyn (i hope there are no passengers on board) , don't forget it's a B777 and not an F-16

  26. Martyn, what on earth are you doing, forget the soup, I need a barf bag. Maybe i'll take a different airline next time. Other than you losing control, I would say they are pretty nice shots. Adam

  28. Hi TheMan_RJ. Before I posted, I made sure the problem repeated after a restart of FSX, a switch to Global, and a PC restart. I then downloaded PAJN from FSS again and re-installed, followed by the current (130909) library. I spent a day changing scenery settings and trying different aircraft and speeds to see if anything made a difference. I always try to trouble shoot a bunch before I post, since I don't want to waste people's time if I just have a setting wrong!

  29. You nailed it Frank, bonus points and all! Hope you enjoyed that flight Gerold, I have the virtual air molecules in my sim almost completely worn out from flying it so often in one direction or the other! I even did that one quite a few times in the real world as a student back in the 80s flying a Skyhawk. I eventually took my check ride at Sandpoint airport. I landed on the wrong runway at Felts once not long after I got my license and got to do the "walk of shame" up into the tower, aarrgghh. They were pretty easy on me though .

  32. A big, big YES. I love P3D, and this is the next iteration. As for paying, I'm with those who have paid for every sim since it all started. an as Orbx is involved then we can look forward with some confidence that there will be some backward compatibility. I have given away all my 2002 and 2004 disks, and soon it may be FSX turn. Hopefully some publisher(s) like BBS and Aerosoft will give us some airliners.

  33. I'll probably buy it, but not on day one. Dx11 sounds great, but I'll want to see how all the legacy stuff plays ball, as with all the global products I'll have I won't want to have installed twice on my hard drive. glad to hear of the developments though.

  34. So does that mean you don't fly on Boeing aircraft either? Or Embraer? Or, you know, Cessna?

  35. always fun getting to places I hardly visit Gerold and an additional way to double check that fsX on my system still runs after it's initial install in july 2011 and with all the installing and un-installing Beta's and other gadgets I'm still surprised it ain't screwed up .... lol

  38. I don't get why so many people emphasise on it being a whole new purchase? Are they the type who would expect Microsoft to release Office 2013 as a free upgrade to owners Office 2010? Its not as if its like a minor service pack or something like that. Its a whole new version with significant changes from V1.x. The above really makes me laugh.

  40. Ok, here's my experience on this: I always use DX10. Now that I have the DX10 Fixer from Steve Parsons, I did a complete re-install at the weekend to rid myself of clutter and to start afresh with FTXG only, removing GEX and UTX. I previously relied on UTX lighting in Europe whilst putting up with having NO lighting elsewhere in the world (not counting the dimly lit background tiles for towns/cities etc.). FTXG lights were switched off completely using the manual file rename workaround. So, in optimism I went for a new install with the intention of using FTXG lights in DX10 thanks t
