CityScape Canberra - First shots! (21)
« on: July 22, 2010, 01:16:32 PM »
We're pleased to be able to officially announce our Cityscape Canberra product.

This project is a hugely ambitious undertaking, and has already been in development for over twelve months. Lead developer on the project is Maurizio Giorgi (Death Valley, Tuscany, Mexico for OZx) who has some of the best credentials in the FS business when it comes to autogen annotation for photoreal projects.

With CityScape Canberra, Orbx will introduce the world's largest hand-placed autogen city ever developed. Almost every single house, trees, factory, office, hotel, government building, landmark and significant POI is annotated or modelled and accurately placed - for almost the ENTIRE CITY and SUBURBS!! The sensation of flying over a real city is unlike anything you've experienced in the simulator until now.

Cityscape Canberra will be sold as a seperate addon to compliment YSCB Canberra International Airport being developed by Hugh Johnston (YCNK Cessnock). We will release YSCB Canberra International Airport in a few months, and Cityscape Canberra next year sometime, since there's at least another year's work to do on this massive autogen project.

Some of the screenshots feature glimpses of YSCB perfectly blended into the Cityscape regional area.

This series of shots covers the the SE sector of the city, including the Russell offices precinct, Fyshwick, Queanbeyan and some incredible hand-placed plantations south of the airport. We'll show you more areas of the city as they are developed.

And the extent of the coverage area which truly shows the staggering scale of this project!

P.S. Forgot to mention that it will also come with a 5m resolution terrain mesh...

YSCB will be released in a few months all things going well. Cityscape Canberra will be released in 2011 sometime (the autogen annotation is a massive undertaking).

My computer just shut down in protest when I scrolled through the screenshots.

Seriously though, that looks amazing.

Wow, simply beyond amazing! All I need now is the patience to wait for this. At least by the time Canberra Cityscape is released I should have my new computer for flight simming.

Anyway, awesome work Orbx, also looking very forward to YSCB.

Don't be fooled people, its disappointing that John has instead posted some random photos from a joy flight he obviously took recently in place of actual screen shots.  ;D

On a serious note I always loved the way Tamworth turned out, that to me is still the best Aussie airport ORBX has recreated (YHBA and YCDR are fantastic but I love the country atmosphere) so this looks like taking that to a whole new level.

O boy... it'll take another year to finish this one...! I think that means it will take about 75946 years before my little hometown will get the Orbx treatment. ;D I should learn NOT to look at previews anymore, because they make me want to have it NOW! All those Orbx-goodies that are going to be released the coming year(s)... No, no, no, I won't think about it anymore: one thing you should never do when it comes to FSX is WAIT for what's coming: you have to ENJOY whatever is released already, otherwise you'll go completely nuts!!! ;) Back to PNW!!! 8)

Nonetheless thanks for the pics: it's good to see FSX is FAR from dead and has a GREAT future! :)

amazing work! looks fantastic!

Ill have to buy it just to try it.  i love the Canberra area but I dont know if my computer could handlt it at all.  I get slowed down over Seattle and I dont even have REX -- which Im planning on getting once again...  first I have to reinstall everything.
I fell out of flight simulator mood but the sale on 3W5/WA56 and these pics makes me want to get back to it.

great work!

Thank so much for your comments!!!  ;) The shots above well dispay this kind of scenery. Maybe someone could think that a scenery like this needs a super machine to be run smootly.... It's not so. Photoreal sceneries take the best performances from your machines, also with the autogen slider to the max. This is possible because autogen is well optimized, also taking advantage from the shadows of the image. For this, also annotating each tree, you will have anyway less trees than a normal scenery. This gives a bonus to the performances. I really thank you for your appreciation!!!  ::)
