Im going to be sooooo damned broke after buying all these releases....

Don't feel bad - I will be in the same boat! Am slowly getting caught up with the Ozzie side, then the PNW releases. Least we are being given a heads up so we can put our spare change away now!   ;D

Hi all,

This indeed looks super already, Holger did great job getting this done before taking a well deserved break to visit family in Germany.

And you know the best part...I'm NOT doing these airports.  It will be GREAT to visit airports that I didn't create already.  I'm sorry that I forgot the name of the chap doing them but he certainly has my blessing.  I almost dropped my teeth when the qty of the airports was mentioned.

That doesn't mean I'm not daily creating airports.  Currently I'm working on the hard surfaced airports for Northern Rocky Mountains (NRM), about 90% finished (the turf are still to do), and I'm done with the 33 airports for Pacific Fjords (PFJ).  Both those sceneries may beat SNZ to RTM.

Cheers, Neil

Looks like there will be a lot of PMDG 737NGX flights between Brisbane and Christchurch.  ;)
I've been there, I've seen it from above and I am very excited to be able to reproduce the same moments on my computer.

Great job guys!

Neil's post has got me even more excited!

How come the new American regions won't take as long as PNW did? Is it because you have some imagery, autogen etc from PNW that can be used for the other regions? Just curious, that's all.

Correct. And Pacific Fjords has 30+ airports, not 400.

I think Holger confirmed a while back that it will.

Correct. And Pacific Fjords has 30+ airports

That's actually good! Feels more like bush flying if the area isn't so crowded and populated.  ;)

I am not as thrilled anymore as when I first found out about FTX but that's only normal. I see the quality though and I know it's what I like and what I will get as it's simply the best stuff available! Good job!

Nooo wrong answer! Your supposed to say it will make me want to visit NZ even more...... Why? because if we need to do some cooperative work with local councils and airports then it sounds better it we can promote our products to them as a promotion of what they have to offer and an enticement to future tourism from our customers.  ;D

This has been the case with VOZ and FTX_AU where we have had a number of customers who have chosen to travel to Australia on holidays because of their experience with FTX.

WOW... I'm a Kiwi who "virtually emigrated" to OZX due to the stunning scenery quality and conversely the total crap that was default FSX Enzed... OZX is wonderful but trust me, Kiwiland is so much more varied with terrain, weather and challenging strips. An OrbX NZ will be stunning.
Soooo...is it ready yet? is it ready yet? is it ready yet? is it ready yet? is it ready yet? is it ready yet? is it ready yet? is it ready yet? is it ready yet? is it ready yet? No? Ok...
how about now? how about now? how about now? how about now? how about now? how about now?

Wow!
NZ has some of the most amazing scenery on earth... And you are doing it!

Could you please start by releasing Auckland Intl. Airport as the first airport for your scenery? ;D

No seriously tho, it is a FS dream to have a detailed NZ!

I think Auckland will be on the list. There are not that many major airports in NZ and I would expect ORBX will do them all.

Hello all,

FTX New Zealand South Island (NZSI) has now entered alpha development and we are enjoying our first flights in this glorious part of the world. Right now we have a sublime 10m HolgerMesh in place, all coastlines, roads, rivers, lakes, streams, transportation network including highways, roads, trails, railroads and powerlines. We also have a first-pass landclass which places all urban areas, towns, villages and all the geographical featues including glaciers and mudflats, plains and forest.  The huge task of enhancing some of the 1135 airstrips and airports for Southland has also begun.

I wanted to share some very early screenshots, and please note these are placeholder textures only, and bears no resemblance to the final product which will be based on Matt's textures made from aerial photographs over NZ.

I wanted to give you all a taste for what is to come in the first part of 2011. Of course, we'll be posting more development shots as we enter the beta stages.

Where did you find  1100 strips in Southland? I doubt if theres anywhere near 1000 strips in the whole country.

the only other existing scenery and landclass package for NZ says choose from 3500 + airfields, from large to small agricultural private strips, based upon government supplied data, so there must be a few around somewhere :-)
Cheers,
Jerry

Hi Jack,

I guess "Southland" should read "South Island". Anyway, the current LINZ database - http://koordinates.com/maps/linz/#/layer/560-nz-runways-and-airstrips/ - shows the location of 1135 airports and airstrips for the South Island and even more, about 2500, for the North Island. Obviously, most of these are unlisted (no ICAO), tiny airstrips on farms or in the backcountry but they do show in Google Earth or Bing when you zoom in on the respective coordinates.

Cheers, Holger
