The Orbx Lancair IV-P

"Lancer" Started as one man’s vision to create a fast composite quickbuild in 1983. Lance Neibauer, after searching for the perfect GA aircraft and finding none to his liking, joined the EAA to design and build the then called “Lancer 200” Which was first Unveiled at Oshkosh 85. Demand for the aircraft was such that it quickly spawned several models with upgraded engines and performance. The company was also renamed "Lancair" in 85 due to a naming conflict with piper.

Since the Original “Lancer 200” powered by a tiny O200 the range has grown to include the “Lancair 235” powered by a lycoming O235, the “Lancair 320” powered by a lycoming O320 “Lancair 360” powered by a lycoming IO360. Then in 1991 came the revolution where Lancair drew new blood in the industry when they created the completely redesigned IV range.

The Lancair ES, IV and IV-P Were redesigned from the ground up to include carbon fiber construction, blistering cruise speeds and in the IV-P, a pressurized cabin allowing it to cruise at more than 300MPH at over 25,000 FT. Powered by Continental IO550 (ES) and TSIO550 (IV and IV-P) engines, the aircraft quickly broke several speed records and was hailed as a revolution in the industry.

We are proud to officially announce that Orbx has faithfully recreated the flagship model of the Lancair range… the “LANCAIR IV-P”
The build is based on VH-LLW based in Albury NSW Australia and is a 100% recreation of the sample aircraft’s systems and avionics.  This project has been underway for nearly eighteen months and we're hoping to release this aircraft by the end of this year.

Featuring…

- Orbx CrystalGauge technology
-350 hp twin turbocharged and intercooled Continental Engine
-Painstakingly modeled 3d gauges, geometry and switches
-A Garmin GNS avionics package
-A set and forget Dukes pressurization system
-Accurately modeled external model including several liveries
-Dynamic pilot Movement that reacts to certain situations and stages of flight
-Paint kit support
And much more…

This preview is intended to provide you with a picture of the background of the Lancair and to give you an idea of where we are in the development process.

The official product page on the website is coming soon.

All Made in xml from scratch mate. And will be independently operated. ie.. this gps drives this com/nav and the other drives this com/nav.

From what John said: This project has been underway for nearly eighteen months and we're hoping to release this aircraft by the end of this year.

Scenery, airports, bob, textureflow and now this? Jeez... haha, what next? A Helicopter?  :D
This is looking fantastic!

Well done on your first Orbx airplane!  ;)

Very nice looking interior and panel.  Instruments remind me of Duke 3d quality.  I hope ORBX releases some of the documentation in advance of the model.  I also am hoping we can upgrade the dual 430s for something with a little more visual space like MX-20 or 530.  Looks like a fast mover.

This is very exciing to me.  Will we be able to add USER waypoints to these "from scratch mate" gps.  Gotta find all those new addons that Brad and OBRX are bringing to PNW!

Thanks John for the early look.  I appreciate seeing the early screenshots.

John and design team.

English not my first language, but I think there is a typo in shot PV27 in the "passenger warning" message.

It should read "at their own risk".

Yes... we are keeping a close look to this one! At least I am.

And while you are at it, also change AMATUER to AMATEUR and CATAGORY to CATEGORY. Unless of course the original plane also has these mistakes: in that case please leave everything as it is!!! ;)

BTW What exactly does 'CrystalGauge technology' stand for?

can you explain why you have decided to recode an entire gps (probably a significant effort), instead of using the rxp gps?

I hope those GPS's there are not Default just with a new face. I LOVE RXP GNS 530WAAS and they just updated the database for the entire world. That's right. A little more info on the GPS possible? Like Nav Data....Terrain Infro..limitations....user waypoints...sorry to be a pain i n the ass you guys always get my panties up in a bunch.

Same here. I care much less for pretty 3d gewgaws on the panel than for the fidelity of my RXP GNS. If these are just a fancy front end for the default GPS system, then I'd like a version of the panel that allows me to substitute them with RXP (as the RealAir Duke does). Similarly, if they are custom but less functional.

3D gauges are a real b**ch when it comes to customising panels.  ;)

Well, well... You guys have completely bankrupt me! How am I going to take care of my four kids now? First PNW, then 7S3, then 1S2, now this!  ;D

What's the going rate for selling kids these days? You might be able to do a 2 birds/1 stone type of thing...

Kidding.  ::)

It shows promise. Some texture parts already look amazing, others could still do with some improvement in my opinion. So acknowledging the fact that this is all W.I.P. I will await the final release screenshots before I make my decision. It is an interesting plane to pick as a first! :D

...The world is spinning but I'm not afraid...
Cheers,

Looks fantastic - I second the RXP integration idea and hope it'll be implemented. I don't think Orbx needs to re-invent the wheel with the GPS package when there's such a comprehensive one out there already. I hope for either a solution like Realair did with their Duke, or a "remove 3D buttons on GPS" function.

FYI I did do a direct swap underneath a 3D GPS in Aerosoft's Catalina:
http://www.forum.aerosoft.com/index.php?showtopic=25452&view=findpost&p=195365
Nevermind that it's the wrong GPS, this just proves it works. Replacing an existing GPS gauge with the RXP can look the part except the buttons don't work and you'll have to click the screen and use 2D popup for any adjustments.

So either the Realair version or a real flat / gap in the panel would be a lot better.

I say either do a in house GNS 530 or 430 and make it better then the Reality XP (if thats possible), with updateable Database or at least a Utility in which we can "write" our own procedures or just do the same exact thing Real Air did with the Duke. I think more and more simmers are moving towards GPS navigation Espcially on long trip where there may not be a Becaon between two OZX or FTX fields you know.

Hmmm, I don't think it will be possible to do a Garmin simulation better than the Reality XP 530 and 430, which are based on the real Garmin GNS trainer software. These units come as close as possible to the real thing. I don't think building the units from scracth in xml will come close, because I think you have to build on the default FSX GPS system. I may be completely wrong though ;D
Anyway, no matter what GPS is fitted in this aircraft, I'm looking forward to it a lot! She looks great already and I can't wait to take her for a spin by the end of the year
Best,
Bert

It would appear that John Venema has thought of us RXP geeks already, here's a post over at the Avsim forums:

Quote
Jean-Luc and I have already discussed him working with us to allow RXP fitment of gauges. I think you'll need to wait until you see our gauges in operation before pulling anything out of the cockpit though ;)

I just hope it comes with a neutral paint   I mean at least one version without Kangaroos painted all over it, or the US flag for that matter.  One that we could personalize with our own tail number if possible like the defaults.

Beautiful - the precursor to the Columbia 400 (now Cessna Corvalis), all the performance, beauty and grace, without the full glass panels. I much prefer glass in my airliners, and nice traditional gauges in my GA, so this is the perfect blend for me.

Some of the pics reminded me of the Glasair add-on from Autralian Simulation; (but CONSIDERABLY higher def).  Was a huge fan of that one. It's outdated now but was a corker in it's day.

Happy days!
