Orbx terrain technology launched in SimJET B737-800 Commercial Simulator

October, 2008 - SimJET Training Systems (SJTS), an Orbx shareholder, this month launched first operations of their commercial B737-800 training platform at their Archerfield Airport facility south of Brisbane. The impressive 210-degree curved FOV display system, dubbed STSvision, projects Orbx-developed 1m terrain database imagery called STSview, in the first commercially licensed use of Orbx terrain technology in the world. Using highly accurate Orbx-developed renditions of YMML Melbourne, YMLT Launceston and YSCH Coffs Harbour, SJTS are able to accurately provide full ground and approach procedures and unlimited weather scenarious using Orbx technology.

YMML Melbourne International Airport Video

Orbx releases FTX AU YMML Melbourne International Airport, the most detailed airport environment ever created for flight simulators on any platform.

August 15th, 2008 - Orbx today announced that its launch airport YMML Melbourne International has been released for sales to the consumer market from the FTX website. YMML features 15cm/pixel modeled terrain for the entire airport precinct and the terminals and all airside and landside buildings are a 1:1 representation of their real life counterparts through the use of thousands of photos taken onsite, and painstakingly detailed modeling. The project lifecycle was eighteen months, with a substantial portion of the work going into R&D on pioneering new techniques for airports with this amount of detail. Feedback from actual airline pilots who fly into YMML have expressed their astonishment that the Orbx virtual airport is indistinguishable from the real one.

YMML is due to be installed in a commercial B737 simulator environment over the next few months in readiness for commercial pilot training systems.

Three FTX Australia Terrain Regions released in 2008

The FTX AU BLUE, GOLD and GREEN regions released so far in 2008 provide coverage in the areas of Australia shown in light blue, gold and green on the map below in stunning detail never seen before in flight simulation products. Pilots will be able to conduct VFR navigation exercises in the simulator due to the accuracy of all topographical features, terrain and landclass. Offering hand-built coastlines, rivers, complete road/rail coverage, vertical obstructions, seasonal variations and wet/dry inundations in the north, FTX will prove to be an invaluable aid for those wanting the most realism when flying over Australia.
